The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Drive carefully going over there...though 64 is a beautiful drive, across the Blue Ridge and then the Alleghenies.

The worst mountain for weather is Afton Mountain in the Blue Ridge, it gets covered with fog at the drop of a hat, even though some of the others are bigger mountains...see you Monday.

I agree with you that you don't need to read the Hobbit first, in fact I don't advise it.

Another Virginian, eh? Nice to meet you.

I usually the last couple years have stuck with a variation on the protein, Atkins type thing, got it from a book by Eades.

It quotes a statistic that most likely (if it's right) explains the weight problem in America: In 1900 the average American consumed 2 pounds of sugar per year, now it is estimated at 150 pounds of sugar per person per year. Mostly in soda, I bet.

I've never in my life been above 165, though that is a little overweight for me, with the small frame I have, but eating protein lets me stay at 155 even if I cheat some.

I've heard that, too. And even if it's off a bit, it still illustrates the problem nicely. Once upon a time, sugar was prohibitively expensive, now it's the cheapest thing going and it seems to be in everything. Tragic that modern-day health food used to be what the poor-man ate. Whole-foods.

Right back at ya.

But I'm moving to NC in October (after almost 22 years in VA).
