The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

my daughter found raspberries growin' in the pasture... where I already brush-hawged over a month ago... but not where I'm plowin'... she sat out there pickin' berries while I plowed... I heard that we had black raspberries on the place, but I ain't seen 'em
no sheds yet, but I've found many a bed...
saw a newborn fawn last week, teetering along tryin' to keep up with mama... thought it was a little late... another sign of too many does... I can do somethin''bout that...
will have to drive the 465... sounds awesome...
enjoy your "mandatory fun"...I love those functions... where "you will go... and you will like it... alot"...

mornin' OT! Look! it's a beauty day hear! (quickly he ducks)
To: All

It's gorgeous here, too! Hey...after six months of winter, we deserve a little nice weather.
Why'd that one post get pulled last night? No one mentioned it again, so I never figured it out.

Good morning all!
Hey, g'nad...could those be dewberries? Little wild black raspberries? Oh I love those! I rarely see them anymore, but I loved them when I was growing up and would pick buckets of them! My mom made cobblers out of them!

Morning all. Am late late late getting started. But, then the only work I have today is fixing my leak and mowing. That should be okay.
Osage, It sounds like you must have the coolest job in the whole world. (except the morale booster functions)
OT - sorry for your rain. Truth is, we had storms in the forecast today and I made this little rationalization that if I waited till today to mow - I might not have to mow!! But, it's bright and sunny.
Hair, I konked out on ya'll last night. Is this Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas something I need to see - or read?
G'nad - it sounds like you have a retirement spot that all you guys that serve our country deserve. I hope to see my s-i-l get something like that someday too. (need help lowering that doe population?)

You know, I haven't seen any dewberries in years either. That would be a nice thing to add to my landscape here. I have seen then in seed catalogues.

Rosie, where were you stationed in Germany? I keep intending to ask but usually when I think of it I'm up reading posts and know you aren't there.

no sheds yet, but I've found many a bed... Okay, I am not a hunter. But this morning it HAS to be the lack of coffee/sleep. First thing I thought from osagebowman's post was "What kind of antlers do you put on a shed? (and why?)"
I've got a bored meeting this morning. Maybe I'll get a nap...

Why'd that one post get pulled last night? That was my bad. It was supposed to be a private post.

I was at Sembach - it's about half an hour north of Ramstein AB.
To: RosieCotton
So, while you were there did you travel around a lot? or stay put? Tell me you travelled. I don't like it that Jill says lots of the guys stationed there don't go anywhere and see anything.

Just checking in.
Becky: Went to the library last night and "All Creatures Great and Small" was not on the shelf where they said it should have been. I ended up getting the second one "All Things Bright and Beautiful(?)".
I read the first chapter to the boys last night. It was good. Poor Doc Herriot got rousted in the middle of the night by the singing Mr. Ingledew and had to help a ewe birth a lamb that had gotten turned around. Herriot sang the praises of having a warm wife to snuggle back up to after he was able to get back into bed.

Did I ever tell you that I was at Aschaffenburg? That was about halfway between Frankfurt and Wurzburg (about a half hour train ride from the SE).

I traveled some. Mostly day trips, but I also went to Paris and a few other places. Main trouble was that Sembach is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't drive, or didn't there. So I did what I could. Almost all the bus tours and such only picked up at Ramstein, so unless I talked a friend into going, I couldn't do that.
Not everyone can get out and about, though - depends on what job you have.
I was in Italy for four months...actually did MORE traveling there.

WN, I'll have to scan in some of my pictures from Germany, if you aren't sick of pictures of the place by now! I have some good ones.
