The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Heh...I like the little hobbit Franciscan.

Just spent a few minutes looking at photos of the base I was stationed at in Germany...my home for over four years. I'm a tad homesick. *snif*

Well I went to go check it again before I headed out the door, and it's working again. No idea for how long, though. The inconsistency of it all is pretty annoying.

I used to fly a Confederate flag on my boat, even in the early 90's, even in the Bahamas, which is a black nation, mostly. You used to see lots of Confederate flags out there, especially on boats from Texas, and even lots around Miami. Everyone knew it was just for fun. But that seems to have changed now.

"Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis were men of integrity and honor, just as U.S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln were."

My belief is that U.S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln thought that of Lee and Davis as well. I happen to be something of an admirer of U.S. Grant, as well as the other two.

Did you know that Colonel Mosby, who grew up near where I did, became friends with Grant after the war? Grant appointed him U.S Consul to Hong Kong, where Mosby, the former Confederate guerilla, cleaned up quite a bit of bureaucratic corruption.

As far as I know, the heroes of the North also thought highly of the character of many Southerners.

Indeed they did.

Too many pixels to leave room for much of her! I managed to get the upper corner of the shield and her exposed shoulder in the avatar though!

I'm posting her full-length on my profile!

I've had an experience or two with racism myself, so I know there is no geographical limit to it.

Get a load of this! This is Roy, with Matthew holding her upside down rubbing her tummy! She loves it! Will squalk when you pick her up but go sound asleep the minute you start rubbing her tummy! Look at her legs stretched out! Ha ha!

And here is Joshua holding Jar Jar...

I'll link to some later, sure! They're someone else's pictures, though. I don't have all that many that I took, sadly. I was busy, I guess.

There's this one, taken just off base on a farm road, but it doesn't show much, except that it was really green there. Considering how much it rained, it couldn't be anything BUT green.

I miss that bike, too...my old friend!

I agree! The shield was too perfect to miss!

I was so happy when I finally found something "just right". It's tough in Googleland!

Roy...what a silly chicken! That's funny.

Jar-Jar seems to have a quieter personality. Probably suits Josh better, eh?
