Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Ya know, I could live with ecurbh's forum being our new online home. Maybe when this thread crashes and burns we can move over there, provided it doesn't get too expensive for ecurbh.

It is a pretty cool spot...
I like it too. We shall have to have ecurbh tell us how much it costs, and chip in as necessary if everyone ends up liking it. We didn't use the message board at Yahoo much because it was so hideous, but ecurbh's is really nice!
It is very friendly-feeling with the green and our pictures on all the posts.
Stuff like the Spoiler thread for ROTK might get noticed by TORN if I moved all the content there (even though they are the source for a lot of it) so I guess we need to think real hard about how much content to put there, do we want that traffic?

I would kinda miss the trolls...If the new forum got a link from TORN, or other public notice, we'd have a lot more "trolls" actually... and perhaps a lot more friendly visitors too.

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like change! I like some of the features of ecurb's place...but I like FR, too! I may not post much outside the Hole, but it's part of our world, just the same.

I like some of the features of ecurb's place...but I like FR, too! Yeah, as we talk thru it, that's where I am too. I like the new place, but I'd still hang around here if just to dust things up in the religion wars every now and then (actually this is my main source of news).
I think the new place needs to be what ecurbh wants. Does he want just us, or does he want to open it up. (and he doesn't have to answer that right now)

I like the other forum, but I think it's gonna take a little time to figure out how best to use it, and I don't think it'll ever be a replacement.

I think the answer is no.... It only loaded the page once when you opened it, then it is static.
Only would count as a hit when you refresh the page.
I think we should try a chat view in the chat room this weekend and try that out some more! Maybe Friday evening?
Ecurbh, is that chat room also hosted by you or is it a third party?

Where'd everybody go?
My bored meeting was almost a disaster. Several organizations share our compound and we met in one of their conference rooms and it had no A/C. Not that big a deal to me, but it is rather humid and in the mid-80s and a lot of the folks were quite uncomfortable. 'Parently the other organization didn't file it's waivers to get early A/C (we did thank goodness) and are under the Post Commanders' standing order: No AC until June 15. PC is a woman who falls over herself to 'prove' something. Good judgement doesn't even figure into the picture.
Last year, the PC's cronies came around and pulled breakers turning off everyone's AC to save money. The shutdown burnt out several hundred $K in computer equipment.
