The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Yes - and I think it is important to set the bar for rebellion pretty low so they don't have to do much to be rebelling. They will try not to push it too much that way.

I just hate for folks to think that if they are good parents, their kids won't rebel, they will never carouse. Good parents shouldn't feel like failures if they do. My excellent parents told me very well what kind of adult I was supposed to become, and I knew that whatever carousing I did had to be temporary and that I did *not* want to get caught. And I usually didn't get caught, but sometimes! ;~D

MM was pretty small, for sure. I don't know what size she was, though.

Kind of a paradox if teenage thin is the syle just as Americans are becoming heavier than ever in history.

I was just not convinced it was true.

No worries. Perhaps it's that whole Mars vs. Venus perception thing.

Parents that think that are just ignorant. I was the good kid. Never (okay hardly never) did anything wrong. Went to a conservative Christian college where you really didn't have to be "bad" to be "bad." Worst thing I ever did there was after working on a set for a show a friend and I took a girl home (she lived in town). On the way to her house we went to breakfast (it was 4:00 a.m.). Two weeks before graduation and the three of us could've been kicked out.

But after college I still had a period of time that I needed to rebel. Had a couple of fairly wild years while I was working on campaigns.

I'd have been better off to get it out of my system earlier.

MM would wear a size 16 today. A plus size. Most models today are between a size 1-3

I don't think you sound like a feminazi at all.

*Whew* I always worry. I took a women's history class once and it is always a tightrope on FR to mention some of the things I encountered in that class without being flamed.

A very good analysis.

My own theory concerning the trend towards fashion models who look like adolescent boys involved the preponderance of gay male designers in the fashion industry. I could be wrong though.

Good afternoon!

Little boys and girls, other than the obvious plumbing differences, have essentially the same body shape. It could very well be a gay thing- they're obsessed with youthfulness, too. But women have bought too heavily into it and it is a problem. If us ladies suddenly ballooned into Marilyn Monroes you'd see wholesale suicide.

No argument from me... I'm one of those guys who thinks Ann Coulter would be a lot more attractive if she added about 10 or 20 pounds to her frame.... curves are much more pleasing to my eye. :)
