The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Heard today at figure drawing class that the son of the students just went to his first prom - he's in 7th grade.

I too do not get this Sam. I did NOT want my kids to be growing up that fast.

Seriously, here's hoping that Jr does well tonight.

See you tomorrow.

"I did NOT want my kids to be growing up that fast."

No, me neither, and I'm pretty sure they are not, no matter what sort of cutesy things are being set up for them. For instance, I have a sister in law in her 40's that hasn't grown up yet.

But when I was 12 or 13 years old, a dance was the farthest thing from my mind. I'd have had to have been dragged in by force.

I think you'd have made a fun sister in law. Motorcycles, stock cars, opinions, etc! :-)

MTV Awards: Gollum Acceptance Video!
6/06/03, 5:14 am EST - leo

Thanks to hard work of Staffer Asfaloth we can now show you a short clip from the MTV Movie Awards followed by Andy Serkis' and Gollum's acceptance video. As most people will know by now (and if not I'm sorry but I'll spoil it for you) Gollum won 'Best Digital Performance'! The Quicktime-video can be found in various sizes for your viewing pleasure: [8.2 MB] [5.6 MB] and [1.03 MB]! But mind you: it does contain some very strong language...

Gollum's MTV Acceptance Speech

You can download Quicktime from here: QuickTime Download If you don't have it.

Why is it that kids are being pushed to grow up fast yet they aren't considered "grown" until their 20's? Why aren't they mature enough to be parents until they're 30?...according to one study, at least.

Got home late from work and now I don't feel like grocery shopping. I pulled the last of those ribs out of the freezer....guess I'll fire up the grill.

Any idea why I get to a point - it's different each time I've tried to download - and then the thing freezes up on me? On downloading the clip, not quicktime.

If you don't have to move, and they pay your bills, then they are good.

IMO of course.

Mmmmm ribs!

I don't know what I'm gonna cook and I can't go get anything because that would involve hauling the kids out of their little pool and getting them dressed and that is just too much work.

Would I be a bad mom if I served up PB and J?

Amazingly to me the oldest kid jumped right into parenting top notch. Like she knew what she was doing all along. And she was in early 20's. But, I don't think that's the norm. And I don't think it's good to grow up so fast. Gee, in this case, I think hobbits have the right idea. Be a kid, be a teen, be a tween and then be grown up. Not a bad life?
