Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I am having a big ol' yummy salad. Lettuce (just for filler), a fresh tomato, fresh onion, fresh bell pepper, fresh cucumber soaked in vinegar. All topped off with just cut basil and parsley leaves and a handful of chives - then a handful of grated cheddar, a can of tuna and Bleu cheese. MMMMmmmm

Any chance that some of the trash you removed could have been the remains of a still? Maybe! - And more to the point, was some of the brush I cut down actually hooch? (horrors!)
To: Wneighbor
LOL!

Why'd you ping me to a post about security and dark creatures? Heh... Who knows. Maybe it was a test of the emergency ping system.

Hi there. My first time in the Hobbit Hole. Didn't know this thread existed.

Hello! Welcome. Sit down and have a bite to eat. We're a chatty little bunch here. And we always like guests! So, you like Tolkien?

Well hello and
Welcome! Come and go as you please, introduce yourself to the other locals.... Sunday is a slow day on the thread usually so it is a good time to get accustomed to the atmosphere.
Reading the whole thread is certainly not required nor recommended... Just pick up and run from here if you wish! (we'll let you cheat on the tests) Going back a page or two will let you know what has been happening lately...

Did ya pass out OT?
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, Tony Stewart just won the race. Don't know if OT is a Tony fan or not. I will be eating crow this week. I don't care for Tony but my mechanic Benny is a real TS fan. hmmmm.... keep a low profile this week.... somebody else will win next week.

So sorry about the race then! - My horse lost yesterday too.
What do you think of my little bird situation? Bad place to put a nest! - But I guess since I haven't been going back there this spring much they thought it was a good spot. I just can't believe Crows wouldn't get it.
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, I sure think the nest is in a less than choice spot. But, if you try to move it I expect that would be worse. It sounded to me like you had a good plan with staying away for a bit, being quiet when you pass it and not letting Gidget in the area.
I have found various nests in the yard. Birds, rabbits etc, usually if I leave them alone the parents end up moving the nest pretty soon. It wouldn't surprise me if those birds didn't move the next on their own.
If you are concerned about crows I think what I might do is take some of the grass and just loosely "let it fall" over or around the baby bird area.
Generally, I think you're fortunate to have wildlife on your place! I miss finding things like that. And I would love to have a weekend camping outting at the old still. ha! I like "old still."

Did ya pass out OT? Wha? Izza race over? :)
To: Wneighbor
You are welcome to come and camp any time!
The nest is still fairly hard to see, I had to really have a good camera position to see it. It would be a good idea to take some of the cut stuff around, even a couple branches and shelter it a bit if the parents wouldn't find that to be too much interference.
