Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

You're eating a lot better than I did on Atkins. ;) Gonna make some cheesecake tomorrow with a chocolate swirl. Yum yum...yum.

Perhaps living there would be different Yeah, it's a lovely place to visit- beautiful homes, nice museums, Barry Goldwaters house, etc- but living there is different. Local politics and such. Toooooo many wacky Californians and professor-types live in Scottsdale.

Curse you Michael Thurmond!Who is Michael Thurmond???
To: Wneighbor
LOL Good to know. Indeed! I love running into kindred spirits.

I don't like cake and cookies. ACK! You ARE a nut! LOL!
Of course, it doesn't help that sugar is like a drug to my system.

We're doing intense and mindless watching Carrie. Funkling, too. Wish I coulda zotted a few classmates back in the day...

Ok, no precious in sight, no one else to talk to. Think I'll call it a day.

HA! - I get hat-head too but I am NOT going to publish a photo of myself in the condition I am in now. I have been weedwacking my way through the deep woods, and I am covered head to toe in grass guts!
Been cutting back to the clearing I call the witch's circle (Will photograph and explain why in a while when I am done) Remember the circle in the Old Forest, where the trees had burned? - Maybe it is like that and I can stop calling it the witch's circle.
I am doing all this because I haven't cut it back since last year, and my friend (dad's lady friend's son) wife and kids want to come camping there again in July and I want the herbacious layer to have plenty of time to recover and look natural again.... but there are blackberry and tall grass that I need to mow down now so it can start recovering.

Well, my friend at church has a son that will be there when the Reagan gets commissioned. Just so you know we got a friend connection in the state. ha
Not confusing about the b-i-l. Only didn't go back and read the post.

I put vinegar on mine... works every time... I have a medium size aloe vera plant that has a leaf sacrificed every time one of us gets sunburned. Works nicely. except when I bake to water blister stage.

Through this gate and down the path....

Is this beautiful little clearing... Now... the thing that was most notable when I moved here is that the rest of the property was in neglect, pasture overgrown with brush and old appliances, garbage everywhere....
But not this place, the path back to this clearing was well used, and the grass cut and green and clean. I love the little trees there.

Here you can see how far I have got cutting the grass and brambles down... not done yet.

And this chair in the middle just seemed like a spot where one might sacrifice virgins! The place had kindof an eerie look about it, so, the place, the one place on the whole property the prior owner took care of, became the witch's circle.

So, how is it you are doing these mosquito things? Eating the food? or applying it - ugh. sticky. that would draw 'em.
It's not that I'm regimented about a tea like a medicine. I just enjoy it. The only other thing I drink normally is water and therefore, the tea is my - get me up in the morning if its a caffenated one - and my sit and relax after work or at night if uncaffienated. At this time of the year I drink 'em cold. Make it, then put it in empty water bottles in the refrigerator so it's single serving size. Cold mint or lemony tea is very good (lemon verbena usually but I used the lemon balm the first time this week)
Another interesting thing, FWIW, lots of people think stuff like this is bunk but my friend who is a herbalist says you should eat at least 1 fresh picked leaf of basil, one of flat leaf parsley and one leaf of mint every day. Just pick it fresh of the plant and chew it up. Antioxidants doncha know. Since I like them I usually do it when I'm out checking out the yard. Of course I miss a lot of days or forget. But, I like 'em and I figure it can't hurt.

My aunt keeps complaining that tho Tucson was heaven on earth for the first 30 years she lived there, it is now overrun with Californians who fear the big one. She says they have ruined her adopted state. She speaks of them in non-postable words.

Indeed! I love running into kindred spirits. Me too.
I think I got a lot of my nutritional and medicinal ideas from my great grandmother who was Native American though. She was very particular about food. Although there was always mountains of it when we ate with her.

FYI - Cheesecake is not a real cake!!! It's in the same category as ice cream. Cheesecake is my friend. Although excess aggrevates dairy allergies - not lactose intolerant, allergies.
