The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, ok.

I'm reading a post about a fellow's vacation in Japan... very interesting.

Aren't those fly masks the greatest thing since sliced bread?

My girl LOVES hers.

A funny thing happened yesterday. When I got to the barn the morning rotation of horses had not been brought in from the paddock. The horses were all down at the shady end of the paddock, under the trees, as far as possible from the gate (natch). So I walked out of the barn at the shady end, waved my bag of treats over my head, and shouted, "Hey, Gracie, treat time! Meet you at the gate!"

My mare (who has a sense of humor) shook herself and headed for the gate. We met there at about the same time. The little railbird kids and their moms who were hanging around the front of the barn gave me the funniest look, and one of the kids said, "Does she speak English?" "Of course," I said, as I opened the gate. "Don't you, Gracie?" while palming a treat in my hand. Naturally she bowed to get the treat . . . and all the kids went, "Wow!"

We are just a couple of old jokers. But I swear she has a sense of humor. :-D

WN; ding.ding.ding. we have a winner, that's the stuff Gardettos; the fuel tabs are what is in the MREs, to heat up the meal, but if you've done it over sterno, it should work.

The pics of the soldiers sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Baghdad palace appeared on one of the threads featuring pictures from the war, I believe. I don't have a link though, sorry.

Suggestions for stuff to send to the LCC: pipe tobacco (if it's allowed) and pipe cleaners; decks of cards (several decks); a set of poker chips (or two); travel sets of popular board games, such as checkers, chess, Scrabble, and others (I'll do some looking to find out which ones are available in travel sets). Uhm, that's a start. I'm still thinking about it...

Oh, g'nad always posted the pic of Gimli sitting on his dead foes, smoking a pipe. He might still have it....

Does this mean Project CountryTime is off?

Oh no! I don't think so. Unless you don't want to try it. I like those kind of projects. LOL

What exactly are you waiting for?

Specifically, if a dude has been hitting on me for a year and a half and he hasn't been invited to my house yet.... there is a reason.

Italian Nachos! Did you go to Johnny Carino's? That's Myranda's favorite place.

Cool, I put Gardettos and Jiffy Pop on my list just in case you thought the fuel things would work.

So, don't cha think this is going to be a cool thing for him? Getting provisions for a few Lawn Chair Club meetings?

Okay, I wondered about tobacco for his pipe. Anybody here know about pipe tobacco? What kind to get? Isn't that kind of like us women with chocolate? We all like a different one?

I like those kind of projects. LOL

Yeah I can see it at some interview:

"Describe your method development experience."

"I developed a method to turn powdered lemonade mix into hard lemonade."

Yes! We went to Johnny Carino's for take out... the Italian nachos are one of our favorite dishes. One of their restaraunts is located just a mile up the road from our house. Too much temptation!

Oh, about pipe tobacco, yes, it can be very individual. If there's any way you can do it, I'd recommend asking your s-i-l what brands/flavors the members of the group like best.

The tobacconist might look at you funny if you ask for those brands.

He might think you're Hungarian or something.
