The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm with Bear! I thought the same thing "Merry and Pippin in Isengard". LOL!

Peanuts would be awesome, IMHO. I'd be afraid of shipping anything in a glass jar, but as long as it's sealed up it shouldn't be a problem if it breaks.

Didn't you notice? We just shove the books down your throat by making references to them all the time. As if every human on earth understood elvish tendencies or dwarvish habits. Even hunky men of Gondor. You have to read the books to find out what we're describing!!! LOL

okay, i told the secret.

Why am I reminded of Merry and Pippin in Isengard? That's hilarious!

THAT is so perfect! I think I need to go out today and get him some disposable cameras and try to get those peanuts in the mail tomorrow if I can. Would it not be wonderful to have a photo here of the Merry and Pippin in Isengard scene with the LCC?

So...we need to do a guy food package? Beer nuts and pretzels and chips? :)

Excellent idea! Beer nuts and pretzels.

One reason I made sure and put g'nad, corin, 300winmag, samcree and osagebowman and oops I forgot ksen on that post was so they might give me some ideas! I think providing for the LCC sounds fun. And I'm going to include cameras.

ksen - please see post 42511

And all you guys feel free to make dwarvish/Gondorian suggestions for LCC.

You know, I have been looking forward to them moving back to the states because Abby is now old enough for me to start reading the Hobbit to her. I will absolutely have a wonderful time when I get to TTT, relating this story along with Merry and Pippin and her dad. Everytime I talk to her on the phone she very seriously says, "my dad is at war." I want to crack up. "at war with the phone company?" "at war with the IRS?" so many wars.... But, I can't laugh, because she's serious, and it's the real deal. I know, I have a warped sense of humor.

Photos would be very cool!

Rose says she saw some pics of soldiers sitting in lawn chairs at one of Saddam's palaces, but it was a while ago, before the war was actually ended. Right after they had secured the palace in fact. Wonder if your SiL was one of the soldiers!

Wow, guys, I leave for an hour and come back to 100 posts! lol

><> How fun to have a daughter starting riding lessons, <><

When she was little (2 and 3) I would be working my mare in the front yard, and her she'd come. I'd tell her to stay on the porch, but here she'd come. So I'd halt the mare, reach down grab her by the wrists, sling her up behind me and continue working the mare. She doesn't remember this, but, by golly, it's given her a natural seat. The instructor wanted to know if she'd ridden before .. hee hee. "well, KINDA"

I'm sitting here laughing just thinking about that pic of Gimli sitting on the dead orc smoking a pipe at Isengard!

Corin - you have that pic handy?

Yes, I was thinking that as well. But, you know Pace comes in large platic quarts now. I was concerned about those in case excessive heat broke the seals and made them leak. But, that's why I was saying put the plastic container in a large ziplock.

Next concern was, the salsa and chips need to get there at the same time, therefore need to be in the same box. But, a loose thing of salsa, even plastic would bang around and crush chips. So, I thought I might just duct tape the salsa to the inside of the box and them place the bags of chips in there. That ought to keep the jug of salsa from crushing chips.

What do you think? About the plastic salsa jug. And the taping it to the box?

How about some beef jerky, or cards? That should survive the trip over there.

That is very cool about your s-i-l.
