The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

See you guys later.

It sounds like to me they all are beginning to really know who we are, if we get a "Hooah!" out of the deal, huh??
I wonder how many of them will go home to there folks or to their wives and say, "You know, there was this group called "The Hobbit Hole" that sent us all kinds of stuff...wonder if can find them on the 'net...from Free Republic or something like that."
Ha! Who knows? Would that not just blow you away to have one of them show up here?
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
Yes, for the long term, the injectible Bute might be the way to go. Though he'll either hate me for all the paste, or hate me for all the shots!

I think we should keep sendin' him stuff, I don't see how we can stop! - More LoTR books and more goodies for the troops! Are you willing to keep going? - I am willing to keep sendin' money!

Would that not just blow you away to have one of them show up here? That would be AWESOME. Hope it really does happen!

I'm finishing up the customs slip for another box right now. I wanted to send some more socks for him to share with the others and a couple more of those foam footballs...he said they went over big. So I went ahead and did a whole package up...
1 box of granola bars
1 box Little Debbie Swiss Rolls
12 pairs "over the calf" socks
10 magazines
2 newspapers
2 foam footballs
Just gotta seal it up and get it to the post office...better get a move on before it closes!

Would that not just blow you away to have one of them show up here?I think it would be very cool to have one of them here! Or more than one!
Lately, we've been drawing folks more for our friendly conversation than for talking about the books or movies. :)

Let's see what happens when the new chaplain takes over...this one has been an unusually easy chaplain to deal with, but in my experience, that isn't always the case. He told me after this month to not even put his name on the address, just "Chaplain" but I know better. The post office won't accept it that way.

Lately, we've been drawing folks more for our friendly conversation than for talking about the books or movies. :) Being a new folk:), I have wondered if that was a problem, not being able to talk about the books.

I'm glad too. Jill told me this morning that Tom is bored. He's finished The Hobbit but waiting for the books -and I just sent 'em YESTERDAY! He hasn't even got the first package I sent!!! He told her he wants her to send him a game boy. But, he will have something to do at least for a couple of days when he gets the package.
OH I FORGOT TO TELL EVERYONE!!! He is - what do you call it - based, living at, what's the army word? one of Saddam's Palaces!!!! YEAH!!!! no running water there though. The staff is all housed in the palace itself. The grunts are housed in the servants quarters. The palace has electricity and airconditioning. The servants quarters don't have airconditioning. None of them have running water.
But, another thing I found funny is: Tom had started a deal with some of the guys in his platoon in Germany. He called it Lawn Chair Club. (LCC) He is a LCCFM (Lawn Chair Club Founding Member) This was a group of his guys that met one night a week by taking their lawn chairs, beer and pipes to a common area and sitting around in the chairs, drinking, smoking pipes and BSing. (does this sound hobbit-like?) He started this soon after they got to Germany 3 years ago now. The LCC grew and was not only guys in his platoon but also other enlisted guys. He always looked forward to it and enjoyed it.
Well, he has continued LCC in Bagdhad. Now he has LCC on the grounds of Saddam's palace!!! I think that's just a hoot!! He did not take his pipe to Iraq but immediately had Jill mail it to him. So, here he is off on adventure like a hobbit (or dwarf) and having LCC meetings almost every night. They can have no alcohol but need lots of water anyway so they gather around, drink water and smoke. And well, you all know what all else. (need to insert fart sound here Corin) So, now, I am going to send some items over for LCC.
We were talking and I saw peanuts in the shell at Sam's in 5 pound bags. I'm going to send 'em a big box of those. They can sit and drink water, smoke and shell and eat peanuts. But, I want to send 'em a special deal for one LCC meeting. Chips and salsa. I need input. I was thinking that if I buy that big jar of Pace in the plastic container, pack it in Ziplock for safety and then put a couple of big bags of chips in the box that ought to be a good way that I could get them over there. Any thoughts on this?

I don't think you understand about my non-talent. I never got the hang of tuning the instrument. Or picking the strings at the right time in the right place. Someone else tuned it. I made chords. And they better not change very fast.
I can't figure out why I can type over 100 WPM but I can only do like 2 guitar chords per minute!! HA HA

LOL! Why am I reminded of Merry and Pippin in Isengard? That's hilarious!
To: RosieCotton
He's the HH's man of Gondor! They stole him from us! Yes, they did. And he is the Hobbit Hole's man.
BTW, I didn't see a mandolin in that photo. I didn't particularly let my eyes wander all over it though. Is there a mandolin in there? LOL

2J - I get so happy reading those letters! Thanks so much for providing us with an opportunity to give back to the guys/gals that do so much for us!
It would be awesome to have them visit us here in our "home". :)

LOL! I love it! Great story.
So...we need to do a guy food package? Beer nuts and pretzels and chips? :)
To: Wneighbor
It sounds good to me, Wn! He does sound very "Hobbit-like" on an adventure with his pipe!!
He will have something to tell his grandkids about, won't he?!
To: 2Jedismom
Would that not just blow you away to have one of them show up here? Yes! That would be incredible. An incredible honor!

It doesn't bother me at all! As you've noticed by now, there's no limit to what topic the conversation might turn to... ;)

Though he'll either hate me for all the paste, or hate me for all the shots! HE WILL NOT HATE YOU. He may become obstinate with you. But, he will not hate you.
