The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I guess he's the real thing, if he played with Flatt and Scruggs, but that fancy coiffure is kind of scary.

Wneighbor is prolly gonna slap me for saying this...but best I can tell Marty is kinda the Liberace of the country (or whatever you'd call his music) world. He's known for his flamboyant dressing, isn't he?

Marty Stuart also has the largest collection of Nudie Suits in Nashville, possibly anywhere.

Gots a nasty email we did.

Do you have a bird? You could print it and line a bird cage with it. Then mail it back to the Morg so they'll know how you really feel.

I think Porter Wagner got that title long before Marty came along. Then Buck Owens did a few of those on his own.

It's the boots that get me. I am so JEALOUS, ENVIOUS, COVETOUS OF THAT MAN'S BOOTS!!!! ARGH!! I should repent.

I could soak his feet... I don't know if it would do any lasting good. I could Bute him, and in fact think I will Bute him for a few days and see if I see any change over the weekend... would be good to know.

I have also been putting him in at night so he can lay down. He never lays down outside, too watchful at night. A lot of the literature seems to indicate he shouldn't be cooped up, but as I understand his stage of Navicular, his pain is coming from inflamation in his tendons and soft tissues that are in contact with the irregular Navicular bone. Why wouldn't it be a relief to him to get off his feet? When he is inside, he lays down all night, and if my feet hurt, that is what I would want to do. So I have been putting him in around 9:30 and out again around 5-6 am...unless someone can tell me why constant movement would be better than good rest, that is how I am looking at it now. Arthritis stiffness and need to keep moving I can understand... This one I am not so sure.

Oh no, I've seen the Country "Liberace." His name is Lloyd and he plays (or used to) a harp at the Opryland hotel. If you aren't familiar with the Opryland Hotel, when I was there they had about 1,600 rooms. Now they're up in the 2,000 plus range (or more).

But the rooms are built around these HUGH atriums. So HUGH they have boats to take you from one side of the hotel to the other (completely inside) 'cause it's a 15 minute walk.

Lloyd used to play his harp on "Lloyd's Landing." If you had a room facing the atrium, you couldn't get rid of him.

BTW, I hate Opryland Hotel.

Yes, he likes Nudie's quite a bit. Now, I really wish I had my scanner. I used to photograph his boots like crazy. He has the most pairs of awesome boots of anybody I've ever known. I want his boots!

Nah. I'm just gonna ignore her. She's one you can't have a rational conversation with (on any subject).

Why, that's very pretty Rosie. My uncle that came up for Myranda's graduation bought a mandolin in January. He told me Saturday that he was really getting into it. But, had to quit practicing because my aunt got sick. -- which really means she got jealous of him taking time to play the mandolin. He said that he played it in church a few times even though he just started in January.

I would go ahead and Bute him until the farrier can get there. Whatever gives him some temporary relief is worth it.

Poor baby! I know you're probably even more uncomfy than he is, worrying about him!

Here's a horse angel for Bay:

Now all he needs is a farrier godmother!

Hey, I'm actually getting a new road today. The grader has been here all morning, and dump truck loads of gravel are showing up.

It's a fun instrument! Very easy to learn a few basic chords...VERY tough to really master. Nice combination.

I feel for your uncle. We have a guitarist who sometimes comes to our Monday nights (we have a room in our parish center we're allowed to use, and a group of friends and family get together to play). His wife will let him come for a while, and then starts giving him a guilt trip for abandoning them. Considering it's his only hobby, it's one night a week, and it's in a CHURCH BUILDING, I don't get it! And then she'll turn around and be all for it a few months down the road - encourage him to play as much as possible and brag about how good he is. *shrug*
