The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Marty Stuart, right?
Haven't heard much of his music, though.
Purty mando.

Mandolin payer named Marty Stuart. he he he. I like mandolins. I used to follow this guy and his band all over Texas - until they got too famous to play little joints where I went.
I can't seem to remember if I've told Rosie or not but Myranda's middle name is Mandolyn.

Actually, there is a change in plans. I got downstairs and remembered I needed to eat the leftover kabobs. I'll have the ribeye for dinner or tomorrow.
I'll put one on the grill for ya, Sam!

This is the one I can't get enough of now. Lots of dust in the eyes...
Three Wooden Crosses
(Print the Lyrics)
A Farmer And A Teacher, A Hooker And A Preacher
Ridin' On A Midnight Bus, Bound For Mexico
One Was Headed For Vacation, One For Higher Education
And Two Of Them Were Searchin' For Lost Souls
That Driver Never Ever Saw The Stop Sign
And Eighteen Wheelers Can't Stop On A Dime
Chorus
There Are, Three Wooden Crosses On The Right Side Of The Highway
Why There's Not Four Of Them, Heaven Only Knows
I Guess Its, Not What You Take, When You Leave This World Behind You
Its What You Leave Behind You When You Go
That Farmer Left A Harvest, A Home And Eighty Acres
The Faith And Love For Growin' Things, In His Young Son's Heart
And That Teacher Left Her Wisdom, In The Minds Of Lots Of Children
And Did Her Best, To Give Them All A Better Start
And That Preacher Whispered Can't You See The Promised Land
As He Laid His Blood Stained Bible In That Hooker's Hand
Chorus
There Are, Three Wooden Crosses On The Right Side Of The Highway
Why There's Not Four Of Them, Heaven Only Knows
I Guess It's, Not What You Take, When You Leave This World Behind You
It's What You Leave Behind You When You Go
That's A Story That Our Preacher Told Last Sunday
As He Held That Blood Stained Bible Up, For All Of Us To See
He Said, "Bless The Farmer, And The Teacher, And The Preacher
Who Gave This Bible To My Mama, Who Read It To Me"
Chorus
There Are, Three Wooden Crosses On The Right Side Of The Highway
Why There's Not Four Of Them, Now I Guess We Know
It's Not What You Take, When You Leave This World Behind You
It's What You Leave Behind You When You Go
There Are, Three Wooden Crosses On The Right Side Of The Highway

Hey, HOTD!
This seemed like as good a place to post my news as any - my trainer has a new horse, rode him for the first time yesterday. He's cute as a button - around 16hh, young T'bred, bright bay, one white foot. Very sweet temperament and more forward than my mare (but still quite tractable).
I have not ridden another horse in so long - it was really weird. But we got organized after awhile - I trotted him a lot, he has a beautiful, springy trot. His canter's a little disorganized but after an hour or so it was coming together. And I jumped him some, mostly out of a trot but we did have one line that cantered sweet and perfect - jumped nicely out of his stride.
Looks like I'm going to be riding him some to help get him together for the school . . . hope my mare doesn't get jealous . . .
In other news, we're looking into breeding the mare, probably to a warmblood - Hannoverian or Trakhener. So out come all the studbooks and fancy magazines - and we'll have to sell pencils on the street to make the stud fee, or something . . .

I'm back. Plan is to go on Wednesday when I get out of school. Can you tell by looking at this font how guilty I am because I'm not there enough and can't do more? </sarcasm Don't worry. I don't buy their guilt games after all these years. It just aggrevates me that they still TRY to do it. GROW UP ALREADY MOTHER! scuse me. I'm through now.
Okay, Back to an entertaining subject - Marty, he started playing mando for Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs when he was about 12 years old. He says he had to get written permissions from his mom and grandma sometimes to go on the road with the band for some of the places they played.

Marty, he started playing mando for Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs when he was about 12 years old. I knew about the Flatt and Scruggs gig, but hadn't remembered it was mando. You're right, though! I think what confused me is that Marty Stuart was given or inherited Lester Flatt's main guitar...I assume he plays guitar, too.

Fun for you, to have this new project horse to work with!
And please do post news of the stallion you find and the foal when it happens!
I am quite depressed about my Bay this morning, because it is beautiful out, and his feet hurt today, I can tell. My horse-shoer still hasn't called me back, let alone come back out to put supportive shoes on, and I don't want to work him until that is done, even if I did Bute him...
So, a gorgeous weekend coming up, and I don't so much mind that he can't work, because he is welcome here whether he can work or not, but I am sad that we can't go on a trail ride together because he hurts.

Hope ya don't mind my 'eavesdropping' .. sounds like fun. I'm horseless for 3 years after 20 years of horses, and my 6 year old daughter just started dressage lessons.

Not being a musician like you I guess I can't name them all but I have seen him grab just about every instrument imaginable and start playing it on stage except drums. I have an album full of really good personal photos of him and his band. A couple of nice and personal ones. I don't have a scanner though so can't share right now. There's a scanner at work but I'll have to remember to use it. First, I would have to find the photo album. Hmmmmm.... after moving.....

You have come to the right place to talk horses. We have several of those conversations running on the thread. Hair is our local horse expert. But, 300winmag's wife Marl and Becky in Oklahoma also have horses. Any others? Lots of ya'll are knowledgeable.
