Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I never went to a middle school or high school dance sober anyway... You know, I've already got enough to worry about...

we ordered 10 guineas yesterday... we pick them up July 10th... they'll only be a couple days old when we get 'em... guineas are so popular (news to me) that the Cackle Hatchery can't keep 'em in stock...

Do guineas lay eggs? And can you eat 'em? (The eggs, not the birds....though I suppose that applies, too...)

have I already exposed myself that much?... pretty much...

I agree about the sodas, I figure they are one of the main culprits in sugar intake, maybe french fries, as well. I know that when I was a kid, in the 50's and 60's, we never had even as much as a soda a day, even though they were only 10 cents. There just wasn't such an epidemic of drink machines. And there weren't many fat kids.
I am not so sure that fat is a problem, however, it has been pretty popular to avoid it the last 10 or 15 years, yet people have still been getting larger than ever.
IMO, most people will not eat but so much fat anyway, as it fills you up quickly, and keeps your appetite at bay for hours. Could the problem be that when fat is combined with sugar, people will then go ahead and eat way too much of both?

When I was growing up in Texas, down on the Gulf coast...people always had guineas. I worked for the appraisal district (measuring houses for tax purposes) and I was always having to deal with guineas, geese, dogs (the small yappy ones were the worst) and irrate people with guns!
To: RosieCotton
with 10 guineas, the gal at the hatchery said we'd be gettin' 6-8 eggs a day... and yes, you can eat them... mmmmmmm.... eggs..... I can start eating just the whites with that many eggs... guinea meat taste like pheasant...
To: g'nad
Getting all females?
Kewl about the eggs! Wonder what they're like?
To: 2Jedismom
I'd rather deal with irate gun wielders that PO'ed geese and guineas...
To: RosieCotton
we get what we get... they'll be mostly hens though... I'll send you a picture of the eggs...
To: Corin Stormhands
sorry...
by the way, excellent work on the blog...

Chicks are doing good...I'm about ready to get them out of the porch though! LOL Got a couple more weeks till I can though.

I figure there is an image of very polite Victorian Englishmen, but normally, I suppose they are pretty good warriors. After all, their soccer teams are practically banned from the Continent, since English fans keep beating hell out of everyone else's fans.
Far as I know, the English kicked butt in the Falklands and Iraq both. Dad fought with them in Europe, had a high opinion of their fighting ability.
And when you think about it, that tiny little country just about subjugated the entire world during the 1800's.
That domination didn't really end until the 1940's, either.
To: g'nad
no need to apologize, that's what makes you our hero...
(thanks for the compliment on the blog)
