Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I don't know. Probably not very long...they will be a handful! LOL

Hey, good job!
I beat Myst over the course of a weekend, but had gotten tired of Riven. I had just gotten to finding the fire marbles. Maybe I should load it up and try again.
My favorite thing about those games, aside from the artwork, is the Victorian, Jules Verne, "machine age" atmosphere and the wonderful sound effects.

Ha! I just read this over on the CMT thread...
Your Daddy does WHAT ??????????????????????????
It was the first day of school and the teacher thought she'd get to know the kids by asking them their names and what their fathers did for a living. The first little girl said, "My name is Mary and my daddy is a postman."
The next little boy said, "I'm Andy and my Dad is a mechanic."
It was then little Johnny's turn and he said, "My name is Johnny and my father is a striptease dancer in a cabaret for gay men."
The teacher gasped and quickly moved on, but later, in the school yard, the teacher approaches Johnny privately and asks if it was really true that his Dad dances nude in a gay bar.
Little Johnny blushed and said, "No, he's really a guitar player for the Dixie Chicks, but I was too embarrassed to say so."

She had the surgery and lost probably 200 lbs. I'm glad you didn't do the surgery. I've heard horror stories, and I understand that it doesn't exactly improve life expectancy.

No milk in the Atkins diet? Aaaack! You can have some whole milk in the later phases, depending on your carb tolerance. Lots of good vitamins in milk... milk fat to be accurate. I've used heavy cream and lots of cheese in my cooking all along.

Somewhere back on the thread I told the story about my dad. He had one of the original procedures in '72 and then a couple years later had more done. Complications eventually lead to his death.
It's not something I wanted to do, but for a while there I saw no other options.

Sad thing is that this may be closer to the truth than people realize...don't know if it's still the same guy, but at one point I had heard that the guitarist who plays backup for them much of the time is a hardcore conservative. Wonder if he's still around? I don't know his name or anything else about him...just heard that rumor.

Good afternoon!
Maybe we should try again, now that I have hi-speed access here.
I've always enjoyed the building & strategy games more than the shoot & kill games... Civilization III, Empire Earth, etc. I've seen Microsoft has a new one coming out called "Rise of Nations", which is in the "Age of Empires" mold, but I'm not sure when it's available.

You may be able to count me in, depending on the game. I'd like to try it at some point, in any case!

cute story, thanks

What is sugar alcohol? "Sugar alcohol" is a bit of slang to describe a group of compounds called polyols that are used as sugar substitutes. While they do indeed have an alcohol functional group on them, the base molecule is not sugar. Whereas sucralose, marketed as Splenda, is actually a modification of a real sugar molecule; three hydrogens are replaced with chlorines.
There are lots of sugar alcohols, most ending in 'ol': malitol, maltitol, sorbital, mannitol, xylitol. The tounge tells the brain it tastes sweet, but the body does not digest them like sugar, they have no effect on insulin levels. Many people can eat them with no gastrointestinal distress, for others sugar alcohols are the worst kind of hell on earth.
The 'sugar alcohol' is a necessary euphemism as other polyols include plastic foams and polyurathanes.

I just got out of a less-bored-than-usual meeting. Our 'team' is a jolly bunch and we got on a food tangent. We decided to have a cook-off between myself and another gal and see who's cheesecake is better: her full-strength old-fashioned cheesecake or my sugar-free Atkins friendly cheesecake. Muahahahaaa. I love a challenge.
I'm out of here everyone!
See you all later!

Seems a little silly to spam a triple precious 20-some posts out...
To: Corin Stormhands
I'll send you the recipes.
