Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

But, since you mention it, why is it that females are so fascinated with shoes? Dunno! Something from wayyyyy far back, I guess! Though it doesn't seem to apply to us all, and I've known some guys who were just about as bad.
My best friend in Germany had a different pair of boots for every day of the week, plus bicycle shoes, sneakers, etc.

My daughter is a tomboy (which surely does not excude femininity) and even she adores shoes, if she has extra money, there is usually a new pair of sneakers.

We had a missionary from Australia speak at our church this summer. He was married to a girl from there. She told us that the people of Australia do not like Irwin. They feel he has made the people there look foolish. She also told us that the word "crikey" is a cuss word there. She spoke in the young adult class (my children told me about it:). She called all the girls "chicks" they proceeded to tell her that girls here did not like being call that. It was an interesting discussion on how words are different in different places.

Snakes don't bother me as much as cockroaches do simply because snakes will attempt to avoid human contact whereas roaches seem to head right for ya! *shiver*
My nephew has rubber roaches that he likes to scare me with. The laughs that boy has had at my expense. He's shaved at least 10 years off my life already.

I have been told that the bigger the rattler, the more venom you get if bitten. I've always regarded the things as deadly. I recall reading that while the bigger rattlers do carry more venom on board (larger glands and all), rattlers can regulate how much they deliver based on how large they perceive the target to be. Sometimes they'll strike without envenomating- not that I want to take any chances. At least they have the dignity to let you know they're there. Unlike scorpions...*shudder*

What kinda gals live thousands of years without accumulating footwear? Very fishy... I can completely explain that. We only wear footwear when we leave the boundaries of our domain. Did you think Arwen was footwearless when she rescued Frodo after Weathertop? But, let me tell you, soon as she got past that river and Frodo was in other hands she kicked them boots off.
