The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good morning to you also..

It's the first stage of a robotic vacuum cleaner.

Like that wimpy little "Roomba" rug sweeper they sell for two hundred bucks.. but with the power of a (rainbow) upright so it's actually useful.

The "Roomba" is basically just a glorified toy and for all practical intents and purposes, worthless.

You are building a robotic vacuum cleaner?

Fascinating!

They are actually becoming quite common. Many major manufacturers make one:

Most of them are basically toys though, and lack real cleaning power.

So is this a entrepreneurial venture for you? - Or a hobby?

It's a hobby.

I have become incredibly dull and put entirely too much effort into things like this..

(I completely over-do everything.. Like Tim the tool man on meth, or something..)

You must really hate vacuuming.

Mowing is worse, so it started out as a robotic lawnmower concept. But, I was afraid it would hack up some overly curious neighborhood kid, so now it's a vacuum.

The robotic lawnmower does sound dangerous.

I have automatic lawnmowers, but they don't do a very even job.

I thought motorcycles made those big, dog looking things obsolete.

They did for some, but I think motorcycles are too noisy in the woods where I like to go.

I always considered horses to be like flags, if you can't properly take care of one then you shouldn't have it..

I can't, so I never planned on having one. I like to see other people have them though.

It would be nice for a farmer or something that already has vet visits, housing for animals, feed and stuff anyway. They could add a horse to their other livestock without allot of trouble or expense.

I have vet visits, housing for animals and feed and stuff *because* I wanted horses!

They are a lifestyle I like, slightly more and less demanding than the lifestyle of having a dog.

My nephew's in laws use horses in the outback to work their cattle. They say the terrain is too rough for pick up trucks, horses get the job done than any machine. They've got some ATV's and stuff, but a horse is the preferred method.
