Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Why don't we plan a moot out to see the lights in Marfa? That would be fun! I've been wanting to see the Marfa lights for a long time.

Myranda came home from swimming with friends Morning! Sounds l ike Myranda had a good time after all. Was the ceremony a disaster or did you gals skip it? (I haven't caught up on the whole thread...) Best wishes for her trip to Germany!
Today is graduation day for my first batch of freshmen from the prep school and I'm going to attend. Politics at the school have gone from sour to downright putrid but I'd like to see the boys just one last time. It's amazing how attatched you can get to such wacky, hyper, absentminded goofballs. *sigh* The students are the only thing I really miss about teaching. It will be good to see them again today.

Didn't want you to think we were bereft of all our avian friends. Well if there are no birds out there, I'm not going! :)
I haven't seen any dead birds around here (well...the cats may get 'em once in a while) and you hear on the radio where it's been found in some birds (crows if I remember correctly.) We've got a bigger problem with Rocy Mountain Spotted Fever. A little girl died from it just this week. They're carried by Hair's tick friends.

Oh my, I did not know that:( The egg is about the same this morning but there are 6 other ones that are pipping (from the right end), I would say we are going to have chicks today. If we decide not to go to the picnic I will call you on our way home from church. Are you going to church today? What time do you get back?

Good Morning,
coffee made, heading out with Samantha and get a paper. bbl
To: 2Jedismom
Thanks for the link. None of the ones I found gave as much info or it gave it in a way I did not understand. But I have always thought God protects the ignorant. Now I am not so igonrant and wondering if I did something wrong. I have thought my other batches did good. Humidity and positioning of the eggs:(. The pipping on that one egg is bigger this morning so I do not think he has drowned yet. I don't know if I should help him out or not???? I am wondering why they are coming a day early???

I wouldn't mind if the disease would only target pigeonsAin't that the truth! I'd really hate it if it took out the hummingbirds.
To: 2Jedismom
I picked that egg up and held it to my ear. I can hear him in there pecking. But it has now been 24 hours. Should I help??? I helped 1 chick one other time.

Oh no.... decisions! - Do you ever help them out? - What would happen if you broke open the shells? - Very curious about that!
2J may or may not check in here before church.
