The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I don't think the front made it down this far... at least, not yet!

No, it's a good question! - Farriers aren't rocket scientists, but the good ones know horse feet.

Morning. Just stopping by to say hello, then have to go pick up Jr. He stayed at a friend's last night. I called this morning to get directions, but no answer, so I signed on to Mapquest...of course I could leave him there... I remember being there before. Sometimes it's just hell being a responsible parent?

I don't think the front made it down this far... at least, not yet! Wow. It's lovely here right now. I think probably low 70's. Great north breeze. It's coming in my window on me now and I'm loving it. This morning at 1 AM the thermometer on my back porch said 90! At one oclock in the morning!!!

I didn't know what a farrier was until I came here 6 months ago. See what I've learned in the Hobbit Hole!

What sort of tackle was bigfoot using to fish? Heh, my uncle didn't stick around to find out! Actually, to be fair, he never claimed it was Bigfoot... just that he saw something big and hairy that smelled bad, standing in a deep part of the river. His story was that he was heading for his favorite fishing spot, stumbled through some brush near the edge of the river and saw it. Then he turned and took off! My uncle, not the Bigfoot. ;)
Before you think "bear", my uncle was an experienced woodsman who had worked the better part of his life as a logger and spent all of his life hunting and fishing. So, he would have recognized an ordinary bear... and he always said that while he didn't know what it was that he saw, it wasn't a bear.
Just another one of life's mysteries!

You were in the middle of that river weren't you?
Was it cold?

Mystery indeed! We used to go looking for bigfoot sometimes when we were kids.

It's currently 84 degrees here in town. Air conditioning is running well!

So, I should know this already. How much of that story (Braveheart) was "factual?" From what I understand the screenplay is a story based on very sketchy history. So, probably little fact but a good basis in reality. Does that make sense?

When I lived in Washington I went looking for Bigfoot. Only I didn't know much of anyplace to go and i had an infant to worry with.

While I admit to standing in a river or two, it wasn't me that time! I was just a little guy when this happened... actually, I remember him telling the story when I was little, so it might have happened before I was born.
The rivers up there are usually cold! Being spring-fed, and having 9 months of winter, tend to do that to a river.

It's the Sackville-Bagginses!
YES!! That was it. They were here! In my house and I couldn't get away!

Bummer... I always wanted to see a UFO when I was growing up... and then when I did, it was rather boring.
Just little lights darting around, apparently high up in the atmosphere. Spooky, but when the didn't do anything else, ultimately boring.

I figured you were used to those cold rivers and could just handle it. Sounded like a fun way to kid your uncle to me.
Seriously though, there's stuff that we don't know what is. And we can't explain it in normal terms. Why don't we plan a moot out to see the lights in Marfa?

Fireflies?
To: Lil'freeper
Got back not too long ago from the depths of hell (aka MD's MVA) in posession of valid MD drivers' licenses. Wow, we need to have a big celebration in honor of this. I'm afraid it's gettting too late tonight for me to plan the party though. Myranda came home from swimming with friends. Time to go to bed so I can take her to the airport for Germany in the morning.

Fireflies wink on and off. These lights didn't. When I first saw it, I thought it was a satellite... then I saw others. Then they started changing direction. And not in formation... some lights would go one way, some another. Very spooky.
Since they appeared to be flying, and I couldn't identify them, they're UFOs to me! ;)
