The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I don't think I've ever had Amy's. But, I sure with we had a Marble Slab or Baskin Robbins up here.

Been years since I had any Amys!First time I've had it... to tell you honestly, I don't know that I cared for it. It was a very... rich... vanilla.
If I try it a few more times I might grow to like it though.

Heh, he only handles technical jobs... what will probably happen is that he'll pass your resume on to someone in San Antonio, and that person will give you a call sometime next week. I'll get their name too and pass it along to you so that you can pester him when you want to. That's cool. It's a long shot during this economy but it sure would be nice to find something in San Antonio that would be okay enough to justify a move for me.

Well, it was ok, just unusual. I have to give it a few more tastings before making a final decision!
I have to go away for a few minutes, back in a little bit!

How's that breach chick doing? They drown when they pip that end,
from what I've read (you know me...I read up a lot!)
Positioning of Eggs An incubating egg should set in a normal position as it would on a flat surface; that is with the large end slightly higher than the point. An egg that persistently has the small end elevated may cause the embryo to be misoriented with the head toward the small end. In the misoriented position, the chick is likely to drown on pipping. Therefore, it is quite important that in general, the large end of eggs should be slightly higher than the small ends; or as they would lie naturally on a flat surface.

I'll be here. I'm catching up on the thread today. Just was reading what Becky thought about the movie.

Yep, they are doing fine...resting quietly after a day of playing in the yard and naps.

Wow! No bluejays? I think some birds near Jordan Lake have tested positive for West Nile, but I haven't heard of whole species disappearing. They're not telling the whole story of West Nile. Over 242 different species of birds have been affected. It's just the bigger dead birds that get noticed.
West Nile decimated the house finch population last year, and I had to do a dead-bird patrol before I cut the grass each time. Four dead birds this year, but the house finch population seems to have sprung back, so far.
Bluejays are still around, although crows are scarcer, but still present. There was a pair of chickadees, but they vanished last year. I really miss those little birds. Goldfinch seem okay, and the juncoes arrive only for winter, and there was a bumper crop of them this year.
I'm hoping the bird population is developing an immunity. People are getting it a lot in Michigan, but often times it seems like just a bad case of the flu, and is shrugged off. It's the fatalities and the critical cases that make the news. They estimate that tens of thousands of people around here caught it, made it through, and are now immune.
I wouldn't mind if the disease would only target pigeons, but it's rough seeing the "nice" birds get hit.

To: Bear_in_RoseBear
It hit over 100 here today too. Thought about you a lot today, since the Republic of Texas biker rally is in town this weekend. A point which was well made to Myranda. I am a good mom. The ROT rally is this weekend and I am going to your graduation. I am a good mom!
Hypnosis and the power of suggestion have made me a great mother!

Okay, feed horses. I know you said it would take at least a week for Bay's medication to take effect but I don't remember if I saw how long it would be before he gets the special shoes.
