The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Have I mentioned I got our RoadRunner high speed access set up today? Well, I don't know if you mentioned it or not. I just got here.
But, yesterday, for Miss Rose's birthday, we knew there was a cable modem coming.
So, where did you take her to dinner?

I can't remember the exact number for my graduating class but there were over 900.

Wow... do you live in a dry county, or something? Nope. We're not a dry county. But, law enforcement here is tough. Even for my favorite lawbreaking pass-time, exceeding the speed limit. Here in this town they will get you for a mile over the posted speed. NOT ME! But, I have met people here with citations like that.

The old county we lived in was a dry county. But, then that was so that everybody had someplace to GO. Since there was nothing particularly to do in the county, you could go to the county line.

We went to the Alamo Drafthouse for dinner and a movie... saw Matrix 2 for the second time. Had chicken potato skins for an appetizer, and Amy's Ice Cream for dessert... it was a fun time!
Except for one disquieting thing... saw a former co-worker there. A woman who had been a phone support specialist for a dot-com at which I used to work. She would take phone calls from users having trouble and try to help them out; problems she couldn't fix would get bumped to me.
She was our server at the Drafthouse (ouch.)

She was our server at the Drafthouse (ouch.) WHOA. That's not good.
Well, I did that application for Sam's. It sounded more promising today than it did that other day I went. Was that Tuesday or Wednesday. I forget now. Anyway.
One of my students works at Sam's. Nice guy and everything. But, it will be weird if I get hired on.... being the new person.... with one of my students being an employee there for 8 years.

Had Myranda actually finished in Valley Mills I heard their graduating class was down into the 40's. So, it would have been a lot smaller. Also a lot more fun. No one did anything fun at this one.

they will get you for a mile over the posted speedGosh, even Williamson Co. isn't that strict (thankfully!)
Where I grew up in Michigan, the Wisconsin border was just 8 miles away. When Michigan raised the legal drinking age to 21, Wisconsin stayed at 18 for a few years... which made going across the border for beer the number one pastime for the high school kids.
I meant the 16 year olds, not the 18 year olds... the 18 year olds usually didn't bother to go into Wisconsin...

Well, Myranda did carry in her beach ball. She hid it under her skirt as a kind of butt lining. But, she didn't try taking it out and playing. The whole thing was just too dry.
She pushed the dress code quite a bit. She said they fussed at her a little bit about it, wanted her to go change... but conveniently for her she had the tire blowout story. "oh, i can't go home and change, we had a blowout down off the loop and my mom and ex-boyfriend stayed there to change the flat while I rode in with some people driving behind us! I don't have anybody to take me home."

My baby brother got caught in the crunch when Texas went from age 18 to age 19. They changed just after he turned 18. So, he was stuck. Only, it was Texas, and he hung out in backwater places. And they didn't care.

Well, tell him I'm really not interested in being a server at Alamo Drafthouse even though I do like the place.

Yes, grew up in a backwater here too. The high school kids really had no trouble getting alcohol. Yes, even the freshmen.

Well, I think nobody really cared too much about us drinking when I was in high school. You know, that was before MADD.

tell him I'm really not interested in being a server at Alamo DrafthouseHeh, he only handles technical jobs... what will probably happen is that he'll pass your resume on to someone in San Antonio, and that person will give you a call sometime next week. I'll get their name too and pass it along to you so that you can pester him when you want to.
