The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

From the couple of vets I have heard from they all had some cases around here late last year. Did you know the vaccine was NOT a guarantee that your horses would not get it? Just helps.

I'm always looking for stuff to read, I've always been an avid reader. But, really, it's very hard find compelling, or even interesting books.

Hullo Sam!

Look at these pretty little things growing under one of my trees! Don't know what they are...

I decided to just say 'no' to the flower bed. I tossed all the rocks up around the tree and raked it flat. I will try some grass seed there and I won't have to weed a flower bed.

Have you ever read the book "Watchers" by Dean Koontz?

Well, what my vet said was that the vaccine was still experimental - a test vaccine really. That is why it has to be administered by a vet, so that they do get a good study group where at least the vaccine was done properly.

I am not much of a fan of horror, that's what that is? Thanks, though.

I do appreciate the monsters in LOTR :)

Simbelmynë?

"At the foot of the walled hill the way ran under the shadow of many mounds, high and green. Upon their western sides the grass was white as with a drifted snow: small flowers sprang there like countless stars amid the turf."

"'Look!' said Gandalf. 'How fair are the bright eyes in the grass! Evermind they are called, simbelmynë in this land of Men, for they blossom in all the seasons of the year, and grow where dead men rest."

Watchers is not, IMO, horror. I know Koontz has that rep. but Watchers is worth the read. Especially if you like animals. Dogs. Do you?

But elanor is supposed to be yellow!

"Here ever bloom the winter flowers in the unfading grass: the yellow elanor, and the pale niphredil."

Hair was talking about how she liked LOTR because of the characters. I have read very few books that I connected with as much as the ones in the Watchers.

It really is not the typical horror story. Watchers is the best book Koontz ever wrote. Try it, if for no other reason then for something different from what you may be use to reading. Heck, I'm reading the Hobbit:)

Yeah, I gave my own WN shots and come to think of it, the lady I bought Rusty from last year gave him his last shot of it last year right as I was putting him in the trailer to bring home. Your vets scamming you:)
