The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Have you guys seen the movie Equilibrium?

Had not heard of that movie, but thanks for pointing it out! I'll watch for it!

No, but I want to! I'm still mad I didn't get out and see it on the big screen. Looks good.

Days off always ruin my sleep schedule. I didn't fall asleep until around 1:30 last night. I'm going to crash hard this afternoon 8-|

Good morning, btw. There is the strangest meteorlogical phenomenon going on this morning. Sunshine! Won't last, though. Rain is in the forcast for this afternoon. :(

Rosie, I'm going to look into taking the train down there. You wanna come along with us on Amtrak?

I'd have to find out if it's possible...not all routes are available from up here. Though I suppose I could take a bus to South Station in Boston and then catch a train there, right? What FL town are you planning on traveling to?

I'm not sure the train would be much cheaper than flying (if any!), but it would surely be more leisurely, and I could bring more stuff! And it'd be fun if a bunch of us could mini-moot on the way down!

Well...aren't you guys cute? You all match, too!

Too funny about Josh wanting to keep the catfish. Catfish aren't good pets! Ow!

There is the strangest meteorlogical phenomenon going on this morning. Sunshine!

I have heard of such a phenomenon. I believe I have experienced it, but perhaps in an hallucinogenic state.

It's raining again here already. Some areas got between 5-7 inches Sunday night. Sun was out yesterday (Jr. and I have the sunburns to prove it), but it's raining again.

I'm not that close to areas like this, but there's been at least one death where a woman was washed away in her truck (don't know if this is the picture of her truck). Local lakes/rivers losing boat launch revenue because the launches are underground...

I got a letter in the mail from the chaplain too...I bet he's sent them out to everyone. I hope I got everyone's names in!

I got one, too! I'm flattered that he took time to send us all a thanks, - what a nice gesture!

Now we all know his name! That's what I think is neat. Nobody even knew his name and yet Hole dwellers gave. I'm still astounded by it. I'm glad we all know his name now, although I probably will continue to just call him "The Renegade Chaplain" on line.

I dunno, I thought when we go to Entmoot, we might meet up somewhere and caravan down, at least on the second day of the drive...maybe meet where we're all going to be on the first night and then leave the next morning...show up at the castle at the same time?

Talk to Suz about the henna tattoos!

When the power goes out for days, I miss the hot water the most. And I just can't see me scrubbing clothes on a washboard.

Ha...I remember one time when I was maybe ten or so, and our washing machine broke down. We couldn't get it fixed or replaced right away, so we ended up washing clothes in the tub...Mom put a load in with laundry detergent, put in enough water to cover 'em, and then had a couple of us tromp around on them for awhile to get the soap through...like they used to do to crush grapes for wine. Seemed to work!
