Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Probably selfish on my part, but... It is. Don't make him be alone. You kids visiting is not a life-mate, not enough company when he grows old.
I am dang glad my step dad found another lady within a year of my mom's death, or he would have died alone. He only lived another year.
And my Dad's lady friend is great! - She is absolutely hyper and nuts, and so different from him that she won't let him be a curmudgeon. She makes me tired, but she rocks his world.
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
But she is afraid of everything. Afraid to drive, afraid to be home by herself especially at night. I don't get that kind of attitude and hope I never get that way. ICK!!!! That isn't some role model you want for your kids or grandkids either. Didn't you say you had a daughter? You wouldn't want her taking on any of those traits.
yeah, i said i made a decision not to be all-controlling in my kid's lives. but I still put in my 5 cents worth.

But my birthstone is ruby, Wuh-oh, another July baby. Me, too.

A light day at work here. Time to job hunt. :)

It's beautiful sunny day now... I've heard of those. I have hopes that someday I'll see one...
To: Lil'freeper
Mine is Diamond. I never got a birthstone ring as a present ;~D

. They get hot and weaken. grab a bend in the nail right after you bend it and you'll see how hot it feels......... This is really good information. Thanks. I will use it. I have always had this problem and it frustrates me.

I think if he had remarried real soon, I might have felt different. But I felt bad for him being by himself, so I was/am glad that he has someone, I just wish she didn't fuss about him doing his own thing. They live about 2hrs from here, so I don't have to deal to much with her, thank goodness for e-mails:)
He had a small heart attack this past winter and I went up there to see him and stayed a night to see how test results went. In the waiting room everything that came out of Alice's mouth was about herself. I don't want to be at home in the dark, I will sleep with the lights on in the livingroom in my clothes. I was so scared, blah, blah, blah. It was all I could do to be polite. I am afraid she is going to make him get old faster then he would, if you know what I mean, convincing him he can't do stuff. He has had both hips replaced, and she doesn't think he should do anything. The bad thing is (he can be kind of contrary:) so he does more then he should just to show her he can. So he could hurt himself, but I would rather have him doing things then not.

I don't like wearing ties per se. I do like buying them for muh hubby. I have a couple nice blue jeans/blazer combos that are dressy enough for work. Though, our building is very, very, very casual. My team leader usually wanders around without shoes...

. Keep at it, your influence is greater than you can imagine. Thanks. :-) now you know why I'm such an irreverent soul sometimes.

Yeah - but those if old folk aren't afraid to drive, people are always battling them trying to take away their car-keys!
We have a good old friend who shouldn't be, but refuses to stop driving. they keep taking away her car keys, so she had a lot of sets made ;~D She's a menace, but I love her spunk.

now you know why I'm such an irreverent soul sometimes. LOL, I had attributed that to Texas!

Any more move news, OT? I can't remember what your latest status was! I've got real estate people coming next week so I really have to clean house. :) Still looking for a job here in case the real estate people say "It'll take years to sell this, you'd better stay put, hon."

Still looking for a job here in case the real estate people say "It'll take years to sell this, you'd better stay put, hon."Truthfully, are you half hoping that'll be the case?
It's a tough call! I don't know how I would handle it.
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
From this distance, they sound like a good matching ;~D He likes being contrary, and she likes ropin' him in and making him need her.

I remember when I was growing up, my parents always saying that my brother and I needed to pick spouses that would fit into the family. Well, at the risk of offending anyone with German blood (and I have some of my own), my family had our fill of crazy German women.
My uncle's second wife was German. He met her when he was stationed there. While he was in Vietnam, she started drinking heavily. When he came home, she wouldn't let him in the house.
My cousin's second wife (his first wife died of cancer), also German. Also while he was stationed there. My sister and friends went to visit. She didn't want them to stay so she put the ironing board on the couch. My sister just moved it.
My brother's first wife was German. She was okay, but she was an artist and just saw things differently.
Just odd that they were all German.
My family doesn't necessarily marry well though. Out of 11 first cousins, only three of us have never been divorced.

I am dang glad my step dad found another lady within a year of my mom's death, or he would have died alone. He only lived another year. Yeah, my Grama found somebody new about a year after my grandfather's death. She didn't want to tell me because she was afraid it would upset me. But, I was all deluged with that guilt my dad was putting on me anyway, I could see that Grama needed companionship. And she was sooooo happy. And the guy was so crazy about her. They never did marry but the guy was her neighbor across the street and they spent time together every day. It was really good for Grama. This guy died too back in 1984 but I had just moved back to the home county a few months before he died so then she had me and the girls there.

Hair; true words indeed. I was lucky in that my dad was quite handy and taught me how use hand tools. I still use his saws and my grandad's hammer on the home improvement projects.

"start slow, cut straight, use the whole blade on every stroke, keep the blade sharp, oil and store properly after every use" Words to live by.
To: HairOfTheDog
It's something I'll have to deal with if/when it happens, I guess. Right now there are still three kids at home, and it's not likely to happen soon.
My parents were married for over 30 years, and I can hardly thing of one without the other. Maybe it's hard to understand...but right now, I just can't mentally deal with the idea of him being with someone else.
