The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Happy Friday!

Still rainy and grey here. And it goes without saying I have no foundation for my house.

Promises to be quiet in the office today, lots of folks making the 3-day weekend a 4-day. Am going to research grad schools some- might post some tidbits from a diabetes seminar I attended yesterday.

Good morning- how are you?

Rainy and gray here, too but it's supposed to clear up later on. The boss is away.

I'm loving the cool weather (we actually had the heat on earlier this week) but I want some sunshine!

Yer mandolin elf could play this'n...

Corin, I love those lyrics - beautiful. I don't know that I've ever heard the song, though. I'll have to hunt it down!

So now he's MY mandolin elf? Can I tell him that? ;-)

I told Matthew "I don't feel like a very good mom." He responded by saying "It's when you are feeling like your doing your worst that we think you are at your best." That's word for word what he said...Steve heard him.

Wow...that's a pretty profound thing for a kid to say! And yes, I think it's a compliment!

I made the boys (and myself) malts in honor of your mom. It's a special treat around here to get a real malt made in the blender with Ovaltine malt and everything.

Mmm...I love malts! When we go out for ice cream, that's what I usually get - a chocolate malt. One of the local places adds chocolate syrup to the mix as well to make it EXTRA chocolatey. It's good!

If there will be chocolate malts at Entmoot, I just HAVE to find a way to get there...

And I wouldn't be drinking, and probably some of the others, too. You can make chocolate malts for us teetotalers!

For the most part I don't drink...and never more than a tiny bit. May sound funny, but I don't like the way I feel if I have alcohol, so about half a glass of wine or a cup of cocoa with Bailey's is usually my limit.

And if chocolate malts are the alternative...well....

I know his name but not the name of the town he moved to for sure...

Lebanon, MO, wasn't it? Or was he outside of the actual town?

I'm funkling...this question has probably already been answered.

Good morning! It's Friday, and we have a long weekend coming up!

And I'm soooo ticked off at my brother right now. He's the one that had a birthday yesterday. He has a sandwich shop and he practically lives there - no time off, and we almost never see him. Soo...Dad told him we would bring his party to him. It's usually sort of slow in the late evening, so he would have time to sit with us for a bit. Dad made his favorite cake (homemade pineapple upside-down cake), we got all his presents together and headed to the shop last night. He wasn't there. The other guy working told us he left with friends.

For him to do that to us isn't all that surprising, but to do it on a day that was already tough...well, I want to strangle him!

Don't be too hard on your little brother Rosie. Don't get me wrong, he needs a kick in the backside. But this may be the only way he knows how to deal with the fact that your mom died on his birthday.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I pulled a similar stunt like that once. It was my birthday. My Mom had just remarried about a month before. I was okay with that, but there was a lot of other stuff going on. I was working for a congressional candidate and my step-dad is a big time union liberal. I was trying to break free from the cult-like atmosphere at my church. So, I was dealing with a lot of stuff.

That doesn't excuse my behavior, or your brothers. But sometimes us guys don't know how to handle things, so we just don't.

Speaking of that guy...

The Noble Collection has gotten around to releasing the wizard broches. The stuff is overpriced but purty.

Good Morning

What do you mean? Do you wish a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether we want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on? :)

Best line so far. I read about 40 pages last night. I am having to keep in mind this is a childrens fantasy book. I forget and keep looking for deep deep meanings, or something that would attacted so many adults. Don't get me wrong. I like childrens books, still read them on occasion now, Little Women, Little House, etc. Just so far and the 15 minutes of the movie I saw, I have been surprised that this is something that would attact so many men.
