The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I think so! Maybe River-daughter is too hard to abbreviate... I can't picture people calling me River.

You will be "RD." Sounds like an upstanding Texas good-ol-boy name.

Note to Jen: You may want to skip about the past 200 posts...

Oh yeah. That'll work about as well as tellin' the dwarves to stay out of the kitchen 'cause there's bacon on the stove...

You got me. I've included all ya'll dwarf/Gondorian types in things recently and you are the only one that's been regularly around. G'nad has a pass. He can be excused till things settle a bit. Ksen let us know what he's doing but the others need to get with the program.

Any of you other ladies here feeling a bit "deflated" after the last couple of pages?

It should get here before I send them out. I'll keep an eye out for it and for the Slim Jims.

Nope. I'm quite comfortable being petite and cute.

I just got in from going to the store...exchanged Matthew's computerized 4th grade science curriculum for the regular "workbook" style, per his request. Also took them to the new library and Joshua enjoyed a "story time". I am once again reminded of my elderly status, when I see these young girls with children the same age as Joshua, slim and wearing stylish up to date clothes. Then they expected us to sit on the FLOOR! Oh, my poor knees. Then I couldn't hear anything!

I felt old and stodgy in my Chuck Taylors, tee-shirt and $10 Walmart elastic waist jeans...

Maybe Sam said he was spending time with his daughter 'cause she's home from school? Am I remembering correctly?

Anyhoo, I have gardening questions:

1) Iris - where the heck do I plant them? Can my m-i-l dig hers up this weekend and bring them to my house w/o major problems?

2) Mums - I planted some mums last year and a few this year. Can I move them now? And will they really bloom again this season? I'm thinking even of potting them until the fall when I'll have a better idea of where I want them.

3) Hydrangea - can I really plant them in full shade? My m-i-l is bringing a blue hydrangea (or as she calls them "high geranium" - bless her, she's lead a simple life). We have the perfect spot in the shade. I've seen several sources say that's where they do best. But at least one that said they don't do well in shade.

The mint wasn't thriving, so we dug it up and potted it last night to see if we can help it out. It was also where we want the hydrangea to go.

They may be younger and have trendy clothes, but I can bet my arm that none of them have a heart and soul as golden as yours!

I think the Hydrangias in our yard have done well in very little sun. The one at the beach house gets about 15 minutes of sun as it passes between two trees.

Oooooohhhhh!!! That is the nicest thing to say!!

Anyway, I can't figure out how they puff their short hair up in a perfect sphere they way they do, and likely they use something I'm allergic to to do it, so it's irrelevent.

But I swear, I would never have thought to put yellow flip flops with a pair of pink flowered capri pants! I have no fashion sense!

I think the one source I found that said they (hydrangeas) don't do well in full shade must be wrong. I've found several others that say they thrive in shade and that the colors are deeper and brighter.

I have no fashion sense!

Who needs "fashion sense?" You know what you like and you know the things that make you comfortable (Chuck Taylors and t-shirts). And you wear them well.

That's called "style."

Besides you can't wear capri pants and flip flops to feed the chickins...

The one she is bringing is blue. I don't know if our soil will change that or not.
