The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I am a Hobbit, Seamus! It just that I come from a long line of Harfoots, whose dealings with the Dwarves go back many ages! :)

Hope Frodo isn't insecure about his height challenge.

I thought about that. Maybe I should find a court with hobbit-height goals....or take him to a baseball field.

I am green with envy over Glen's DSL connection! There is just NO comparison between the two!

So I guess it's safe to assume that no chickens have arrived yet either? *grin*

Oh dear me, how forgetful!

A thousand pardons, m'lady!

Hullo! Good morning!

I am green with envy over Glen's DSL connection!

At least your phone line works! Twice in the past week now I've had either no dial tone at all or one with so much static that the modems couldn't deal with it.

No offense taken, my fine sir!

I take being called a "Dwarf" as a compliment.

I would long to be one if it weren't for the fact that I simply must be in an environment where I can enjoy the sun and the trees. Unfortunately, caves are not conducive to that sort of thing.

I have got major major goose bumps and misty eyes just reading what you said. I love those kinds of places. I don't know if I'll ever get there or not but your description has certainly earned a place in my memory banks.

I don't guess we want to consider taking Frodo to an establishment where he can see the sport of dwarf tossing do we?

I guess I'm just going to have to come up there and have a little set-to with that nice young man that assured 2J he could get her the Orps.

I don't even know where they dwarf-toss locally. But then I don't get out much either. I could take him to our Freeper meeting, but CD might do some hobbit-tossing.

and there's the whole "snow pants" thing...but I digress...

At any rate, I'm currently doing my pennance for not being around here as much as I should.

In The News:

Autumn is 98% potty-trained, and has been wearing regular underwear (I REFUSE to call them "panties"!) every day for the last two weeks, with no accidents! We're still having some trouble at night though, but it's coming along pretty well.

Jess is doing ok, but has to go see a Neurologist next Tuesday to try and figure out where her awful headaches are coming from. Her mom's side of the family has a genetic thing called "Neurofibromotosis", which is an expensive way of saying "moles". Her uncle has them to the point where they've grown on the inside, and he's had to have several operations to have them removed, before they can do some damage. Now, granted, Jess has it very mildly, but the trip to the Neurologist is simply a cautionary measure, so we can rule out NFM as the cause.

Best case scenario, it's migraines, and she can get some script for it.

Worst case scenario, it's a benign NFM tumor growing on the inside of her head.

I tell ya, there's never a dull moment at my house!

Okay, here are photos of the stuff I'm mailing my s-i-l from the Hobbit Hole.

Lots of lovely goodies supplied by the HHD familiar with military needs. Binoculars, compass, thingy to attach stuff to clothes, cutting instruments, uh hemostats?, a lovely lockback knife, flashlight with multitool, all the instructions. I will add extra batteries to this box.

And snacks! - I have fireballs to add to that. I am just going to dump them loose in the box to fillup space.

Whoa, Seamus...never a dull moment is right!

I'm so glad to hear that Autumn is almost completely potty-trained. What a relief that is! But tell me, what's wrong with calling them "panties"?

I'll be praying for Jess.

Thanks for the prayers, they are much appreciated!

Ruthy - "Panties" just seems such an "adult" word to me...I just can't see the word being used to describe my daughter's underwear.

It's kind of hard to explain, but it's the same reason I almost punched out Jess' OBGYN when he was doing the "gender ultrasound" 3 and a half years ago. He told us we were having a girl, then proceeded to label Autumn's "parts" on the monitor, using the proper medical terms. Never before in my life have I wanted to deck someone so badly. LOL

"NO! Those words do NOT apply to my daughter until she's MUCH, MUCH OLDER! Like 35!"

Call it an over-protective father thing. LOL
