The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Woo-hoo! Just heard that Cherish the Ladies will be playing here (in my town, not an hour away!) this September. They aren't my very favorite Irish band (that would be Lunasa, I'd say!), but I like them a lot. And not having to drive anywhere is a huge bonus!

the democritic protester man who showed up yesterday for about 15 minutes and proceeded to put on a strange looking skirtlike object on in front of us and then remove his pants.

I didn't really get into Matrix either but that might have been because I watched in on TV with lots of commercial interruptions.

Let's see....dreary sets, talk, fighting, talk, you know....is there a plot to this thing?

You and OT and your excuses! ;-)

I'm lucky to have siblings that are at LEAST as into music as I am. Of course, one of them keeps reminding me that he really should have his OWN life and shouldn't be hanging out with us. Sigh. This while I'm driving him several hours away to see great bands...or to festivals he would never go to on his own. *whine*

NO! He/it did not look like that. Far from the manly dwarf/HMOG type. More like the Berkely/SF type. He came dressed in pants and a polo type shirt. Pulled out this thing that looked like he'd taken a longish colorful beach blanket and sewed the 2 opposite ends together thus making a blanket tube? Then, steps into it like stepping into a burlap bag to do a sack race. Then pulls it to his waist and lapped it around and tucked it in itself like wrapping and tucking a towel when getting out of the shower. The thing came about to his upper ankles. I thought he was fixing to lay down and do some kind of idiot lay-in-the-path stunt though I couldn't think of any scenario where that fit in this case. But, Myranda was with me and there were about another 2 teenageish homeschooled girls there and I became alarmed when the guy began to unloose his pants under this get-up. However, he merely removed them, leaving on the skirt object and proceeded to put on something looking like an old WWI field jacket with a couple of chickens appliqued on it. That was confusing. I guess he was admitting to them being chickens. Or proud of it. ???? Frankly, I didn't get it. But, I don't think I'm sorry that I don't get their mind-set.

talk amongst yourselves. see what you can come up with. photos coming.

Good luck getting your friend to see the light.... you might be able to show her these concepts easier than explaining.... show her that going calmly is the goal, not just running around at the end of the line.

My Bay was funny about the lunge whip when I first got him, and he works fine without it, so I don't even carry it. He lunges nicely. I have been lunging him a lot. He is 22, and I don't think he was ready to just saddle up and go riding this spring after a winter off. He is stiff and stumbly when he first gets going, but he warms up and is now looking a lot stronger than when we started. He needed to be conditioned slowly before I start riding trails, so I have lunged him most every day for the last two weeks and had one short ride so far.

here he is looking good last week: (his coloring is off because he is wet from a bath in the first pic)

The pony I have is a really nervous pony, so I don't carry it with her either. She was treated harshly by whoever started her and is prone to full blown panic attacks if she makes a mistake. I have spent two years with her trying to convince her I am not going to kill her.

I know, I know...just teasing ya.

I don't like winter driving either, let alone at night and with ice on the roads!

she got sucked into the thinking, buy a young horse and we can learn together, that just doesn't work generally.

No, but they write teenage novels about it working that way... It would have been better for her to start out with a trusty horse to teach her, especially if she is timid. Good luck working with them both!

I don't get it either!

Note to democritics: if you do something odd in order to make a statement, it's best to make it clear what that statement IS!

Did you order those Slim Jims? Should I wait for them to send these packages?

I found a great buy on Tang at Sams.

I might. We have about $140 to cover snacks and shipping. I could do it, but the packages will be skimpy. Still VERY nice though, with a set of books and a set of binoculars and at least a big ol' thing of Tang in each box.

That's $140 after the books are paid for, btw. I already paid for them and they got here just fine, and I've already put the HH labels in each book. One set of the books is going to WN. But there are still 5 sets of boxes going to the chaplain, one box has some cast-off library books from my church in it instead of a set of LOTR books.
