Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I have never had problems with ants. We have flies terrible. Fly spray only works for alittle while.
I am horse sitting for a neighbor the next 9 days. I offered to do it, because she has a young horse that she is breaking that she shouldn't really be. I have been riding with her, and I have been worrying because this horse is slowly getting to be more and more of a brat because the owner does not know what she is doing and is not confident enough to make it mind. She has a young son also so only gets to ride about 1-2 times a week.
I offered to keep her two horses if I could ride the young one. I brought them home yesterday, let her run and play for an hour then saddled her up. Lunged her for about 30 minutes, she was bad, bucking, kicking, rearing, charging at me, trying to drag me around. We lunged till she walked two complete circles both ways without stopping. Then I rode her in the arena for about 45 minutes. She didn't do anything really bad, she was tired, but she doesn't know anything. I have her for 8 days. Don't know if that well be enough to really accomplish much. I am hoping to get her out on the trails in a day or two, where she will be away from her buddy. After I get back from town today, grocery day, she is going to get saddled and tied up to stand. That is something else she doesn't do well. Very impatient horse. YEsterday she was runing around the tree I tie too, pawing, just really being a brat. She may be tied all day:) It's been raining all night, and is still cloudy, so I don't know if I will be able to ride, but she is going to get saddled and tied up.
I have told the owner to do that every day, even if she doesn't get to ride. But she doesn't do it. So even if I accomplish anything with this horse she will probably undo it in a day or two. But I need to try. The horse is a 4 yr old paint. They did not start breaking it till last fall because it's a pretty small horse, and the owner is a big girls. Not fat, just big, tall.
Sorry for the ramble, I had fun yesterday messing with her, and love talking horses.

Corin, where are ya? It's morrrrrning! Yawn....I'mup, I'mup....
I did indeed stay awake through X-Men last night (okay, one lapse, but I got up and got more coffee and made it through). I still don't "get" the appeal...
Then I went to work out, so I got to bed way too late. This morning my Mom stopped by at 6:30 a.m. She was on her way home from Virginia Beach. She'd been helping my aunt get ready to move (my aunt lived with the cousin who recently passed away). So she stopped by to bring Luke a Little Tykes sandbox which will be perfect for the deck and to give Jr. some cash, 'cause she never knows what to buy him. My Mom invented the phrase "shop 'til you drop." It's her way...
So, I'm here. No bored meeting. But I want to get out of here. Jr's friends are coming over tonite to celebrate his birthday. Yes, we know it's a month too late. Anyway, we'll be playing laser tag at 11:00 tonite....sigh...

Not interested in our 13 yr old son seeing folks getting it on up on a 30 foot screen!! That's purty much what I've decided.
In fact this morning I was beating myself over the head wondering why it was even an issue. Of course I don't want him to see that stuff yet.
I'm not sure I should see that stuff...

See....the bacon worked!

My Dad let my little brother go see it last night...he's about a year older than Jr. I'm thinking he didn't fully understand what the movie was about, and Stephen's not one to tell him.
On the other hand, if it WAS pretty bad, he'll probably tell Dad about it, so I guess I shouldn't worry. But I still do.

On flies.... I don't get them too bad. Just the amount I think are anywere.... I do spread their manure piles as often as I can in the pasture, and I remove all the droppings from in the paddock area that is right near the house and barn.... That helps, I think, and I use one of those salt licks that has a fly reducer in it - It doesn't make the horses repel flies, but supposedly it keeps fly larvea from hatching in their manure.
I don't know what the deal is with these ants. All I had on hand to spray them with was fly spray, and I don't know if that will get rid of them forever.... I still don't really know where they are coming from. I should have started spraying around now for bugs anyhow (I get those little no-see-ums!) so I will just spray the stalls and the lean-to every day for awhile and see if the ants go away.
On your friend.... I sympathize. It takes a little bit of the fun out of making any headway with this young one when you know that you are treating a symptom, and the source of the problem isn't changing.
I have a friend too who seems to often make judgment calls that I wouldn't make.... she has predictable troubles from them, but she still doesn't take the steps the next time.... She wants the end result without the work, or expense, or time to get there.

Well, I read the review SuziQ linked to and I saw Jen's comments. I'm thinking it's a "no" for this one.

Probably won't be that patient, but I wish Dad had let me watch it before letting Stephen go. He went with an older brother, but I don't think he should have.

Good morning everybody!
It is Friday indeed!
I am utterly failing to catch Matrix fever... I saw it one time a long time ago, but barely remember it. I must have a piece missing from my set! So I won't see this one in the theater, it takes a big deal to get me to a theater anyhow. I will watch it later at home with Ramius, perhaps after seeing the first one again with him tutoring me.

Bloom's 'Pirates' Trailer
5/15/03, 6:46 pm EST - Xoanon

Disney opened their 'Pirates of the Caribbean' website with several teaser posters featuring the main cast, this is the Orlando Bloom (Legolas) poster. [More]

The problem with this rider is she got sucked into the thinking, buy a young horse and we can learn together, that just doesn't work generally. She has only been riding horses for about 2 yrs. She has no conficence to MAKE the horse behave. When the horse gets squirrely, she gets scared and the horse gets its way. When she gets real scared she lands up holding the horn with one had and pulling back on the reins with the other till the horse gets frustrated at being pulled on constantly and either bucks or rears.
Whe she has tried lungeing the horse, and sees it acting up, she has decided the horse doesn't like to be lunged so she doesn't do it. I don't like lunging a horse till it stops being silly because it is tired. I just want to lunge them and let them calm down. But when she has lunged the horse and it starts to slow down she pops the whip and it takes off again, and she keeps it up till the horse is tired, so it is learning to run around on the lunge line like a fool rather then learning to calm down. And so now the owner thinks the horse just doesn't like to lunge and that lungeing makes her squirrely. She doesn't see that she taught the horse to act that way. Of course the horse acts better then, but only because it is tired. I did not even pick up a whip, and when ever she started to move faster then a trot, I would whoa her and start again. Of course we had to do this till she was tired before she caught on that I just wanted her to be calm. I hope the arena is not so muddy that I can work her again today.

Matrix: You know I didn't see the fascination in that movie either. My husband really liked it, so he got a copy. We watched it about 3 times before I finally caught on to what was going on (I think:). I liked the special effects thought:)

Good morning all. I'm not quite recovered from the last 2 days yet. I'm sunburned and pooped so I might be napping a bit shortly. First, I have to go follow this Orlando news. If anybody's interested, a photo of a freeper made the front page of the Ardmore, OK paper yesterday. You can see it if you go here:
http://www.ardmoreite.com/stories/051503/loc_tx_demos2.shtml# 2J Glad to hear Jedis food is staying down.
Soon as I can get going this morning you will see photos of Myranda (now that she's an official activist we have to get her an FR name) AND *drum roll* the democritic protester man who showed up yesterday for about 15 minutes and proceeded to put on a strange looking skirtlike object on in front of us and then remove his pants. I caught the photos as he escaped across the parking lot. I need to get into photo shop and crop them a bit so you can see him more clearly.
