The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That would have been cool, would have loved to see it at a drive in, so we could talk about it to our heart's content. ;)

Have a good weekend!

When you get there choose chat...

If you haven't been in a Java chat room before you may have to do a small install of that.

Thanks! Say, has anyone heard of the Tolkien Ensemble before? I just heard of them today. Here is their website: http://www.tolkienensemble.dk/

They sound really neat...the concept anyway. I haven't found any samples of their music to hear yet. If it's on the page I haven't found it yet.

Ah-ha...you can sample it on amazon.com. Sorry..don't know how to make it a hyperlink. Oh and be sure it's The Tolkien Ensemble. I typed that into the search and got this horrid one instead that was NOT them. Yikes it was pretty bad.

OK... so here I am fighting the temptation to buy what appears to be a really good stainless steel version of Narsil. Do I really need this thing? OK, it's not really a question of need, granted, but it would be extremely cool would it not?

Has anybody gotten one of these things? Is the quality really there?

Not that I know of....

I want a version with a scabbard, that I could actually wear ;~D

They have a replica of the Aragorn's Ranger sword with a scabbard, I am looking for it.

It's not really clear on whether it comes with a scabbard or not, or whether it comes with a factory edge.

Sure, it would look good on the wall, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with a dull movie prop if a bunch of orcs suddenly kicked the door in. :-)

It doesn't come with one... but one place was selling the scabbards.... I just can't find it.

It says unsharpened... you would have to take it to a smith if you wanted it really sharp. I don't know how it looks when it comes.

Osage, do you know what a "false edge" looks like on the replica swords? That is what they call it below.

And the real swords are spring steel, Is this not the same flexible blade as the real thing? What do you think? - Would a novice know the difference?

Blades by Brown Cutlery (United Cutlery): Narsil

Narsilª

United® Cutlery’s next adult collectible reproduction sword featured in the "Lord of the Rings" films is Narsil, the mighty sword of King Elendil.

Narsil is perhaps the most famous sword in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. At the end of the second age of Middle-earth, Narsil’s blade was shattered as Elendil fell during the Last Alliance of Elves and Men in the great battle of Sauron. Isuldur, Elendil’s son, then used the broken hilt of Narsil to cut the One Ring from Sauron’s finger, breaking the bonds of his power, banishing his evil shadow into the darkness.

Features include antique silver plated metal handle parts with 24-K gold plated fittings and genuine leather-wrapped grip. Engraved on the pommel are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that say "Narsil is my name, a mighty sword; Telchar made me in Nogrod".

This website is the home of the organization protesting against the third installment of the J.R.R. Tolkien Lord Of The Rings movie being named "The Return of the King".

We feel the makers of the LOTR films are using the death of Elvis Presley as a marketing tool for their movie, and are petitioning to have the name changed.
