Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Actually, he acts fine! So far no fever. But he's sick to his stomach "in all ways" so to speak, if you get my meaning. So I have him sipping pedialyte.
I think he might have gotten hold of something not good for him during cub scouts yesterday evening. He acted green when he came in.
My mom is coming over with some broth and her carpet cleaning machine!

EVERYBODY was a racist in frickin' 1862...You obviously have not been adequately enlightened yet. But don't worry, the Re-Educators will be dispatched to your location later this week.

He is really fine...overjoyed that he gets the day off from school. And to top it off, it is raining which means lots more computer time for him than normal! LOL
I think I might make him some broth...I have some chicken tenders I was going to fry.

I'm in Chesterfield, not Richmond. I probably have a few decades...

It won't last long. It's starting to lighten up here.

You know I don't try to re-fight that battle. I know a lot of what the South stood for was wrong. Still I can respect my ancestors (who indeed fought for the Confederacy). Agreed. Irony is, a lot of the political ideas that most of us espouse here in FR are the same ones espoused by the confederacy. Always overlooked because of the racism issue.
I am carefully avoiding that battle here in WF right now. Remember the friend I had told ya'll that I finally made here who is in favor of higher taxes and yet votes conservative on all other issues? Well, she and her husband are from Montana. I was invited to dinner at their house one night to be ambushed by the husband over the war between the states. He feels that he knows more about the motives of the south because he isn't from the south and therefore can analyze "our" motives more clearly. *eyes rolling* Myranda and I both carried on a semi-polite battle over this through out the evening. It was stessful. I was told I had all forms of disgusting ideas about other races, not only blacks but hispanics and arabs as well just because I am from here. And since I am from here I don't realize and acknowledge that I am this way. None us do. It's not just me.
Next week, the wife invites us to dinner again because her husband decided he ought to research the war so that he could argue this in a more informed manner. I said, "oh, we have plans, I'm sorry." I wanted to say, "well here in the south, we don't invite guests to our home for the purpose of arguement, that would be considered rude."

(and the dwarves get first dibs on the bacon) only on days when they're fast enough and not distracted in their wars.

It's pouring down rain here! Well, one reason I attacked that gardening so vehemently this morning is that we're supposed to have showers here all day. It was very overcast from the time I got up so I was sure it was really going to happen this time. So, I moved that mint and put out 6 tomato plants to take advantage of the rain when it started, and now the sun it out. And I'm watering. great.
so, send some of that rain just a little southwest okay?
To: RMDupree
Thanks Ruthy, But, because I would think myself rude to say that, I didn't say it. But, if this keeps up, it will not be rude, it will be education.
To: 2Jedismom
You know what I would have told her... I almost had to ask. Then I thought and almost spewed my drink of water all over the keyboard! Thanks, I may use your line on this one.

Care Package Contributors!

The books have arrived!! They are great, the older ones that are in the green case and not the newer ones in the pink case. Here is a picture:

These cost $10 each with about $6.50 for shipping 5 sets. The sticker on each set says $27.96. I got the guy's name from Amazon, but didn't deal with him through Amazon...just via email which was a bit nerve-wracking for me because he could have just taken our money and left. But I took the chance and he proved faithful.
He said he had 100 of these, so we can probably get more in the future...

Well, bless her heart, she was from Montana after all.... You're such a gentleman Kevin. But, you know, you ARE southern so there's things about yourself and your attitude toward others that you don't know about.
To: 2Jedismom
are they houghton-mifflin? that would be too good to be true wouldn't it?
