The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It there still rooms or do I have to bunk with somone else?

There is a room with a couple double beds that could be given to two of the single ladies on the trip. The house has 5 bedrooms. So far 2J, Suzi, and myself have asked for one. That leaves two more rooms. One has a queen-sized bed and the other has two double beds.

My favorite places to visit aren't any cities, that is true. Seattle is not bad as cities go. The traffic is horrid, a four-lane interstate chokes down to two thru-lanes right in the center of the city, and they stare at the problem and decide to buy busses.

The people aren't in busses.

Okay, now I make a note of this on my page of notes. And I will be able to express myself much better. Don't know if that's all together good but it'll be more fun.

My cousin's band used to play that song sometimes. He had me give long explanations about the books. He was insatiably curious but isn't into reading.

There are numerous Tolkien references in Led Zeppelin! - Yes! - That one makes sense, some of the references make more sense than others. This is the other big one I can think of now: Lots of Tolkien fans have parsed this one to make sense of it.

Battle Of Evermore

Queen of Light took her bow
And then she turned to go
The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom
And walked the night alone.
Oh dance in the dark of night
Sing to the morn ing light.
The dark Lord rides in force tonight
And time will tell us all.
Oh throw down your plow and hoe
Rest not to lock your homes.
Side by side we wait the might
Of the darkest of them all.
I hear the horses' thunder
Down in the valley blow,
I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon,
Waiting for the eastern glow.
The apples of the valley hold,
The seas of happiness,
The ground is rich from tender care,
Repay, do not forget, no, no.
Oh,-------dance in the dark of night,
sing to the morning light.
The apples turn to brown and black, The tyrant's face is red.
Oh the war is common cry, Pick up you swords and fly.
The sky is filled with good and bad
That mortals never know.
Oh, well, the night is long, The beads of time pass slow,
Tired eyes on the sunrise, Waiting for the eastern glow.
The pain of war cannot exceed
The woe of aftermath,
The drums will shake the castle wall,
The ring wraiths ride in black, Ride on.
Sing as you raise your bow,
Shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night
That lights the face so cold.
Oh dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the mornin' light.
The magic runes are writ in gold
To bring the balance back, Bring it back.
At last the sun is shining, The clouds of blue roll by,
With flames from the dragon of darkness
The sunlight blinds his eyes

"we'll have to start a P.G. Wodehouse thread"

Apparently, Tolkien, as a philologist, had figured out the "Wodehouse" did not mean "house in the woods," but "wild man of the woods," a fact that I have let be known to a friend of mine who bears the name.

Well, my computer literacy skills are self taught, therefore I sometimes struggle with even the slightest terminalogy. And *looks down* I did get an html book several months ago, but there are many other things that I've been enjoying reading. I read chapters 1 and 2 though!!! Last fall.

I should be better informed. Many of my students learn html to assist them in finding good jobs. But, I know I am an expert at what I do and I tend to rest on that and just play at learning other things.

YO! I like that name!

"Wodehouse" "wild man of the woods,"

Need to look at the feminine form and see about a name change.

I'm from the East Coast. I understand traffic. I just liked staying in the Westin and looking out over the water or walking down to the market.

I only know the things I found out one by one... First I wanted to know pictures, then Ecurbh gave me the basic code so I could make the table with columns that is on my profile. I look at the code and it makes no sense, but it worked!
