The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Lots of things making me laugh tonight... Rose and I watched "Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius" on one of the movie channels, and it was remarkably silly!

apparently they eat ticks.

We live in a very wooded area. All the neighbors dogs always have those big ugly gray ticks hanging off them, but since we got chickens we have none, nada, no ticks on our property. Best tick controller ever devise. Eggs are a bonus. Best tasting eggs ever.

State troopers and the elite Texas Rangers were ordered to track down and bring in 59 Democratic lawmakers who brought the Texas House to a standstill Monday by going into hiding.

It is better than satire! [gaping]

Yep, and the whole process...getting there...swimming and getting back is about an hour and a half. I'm still gonna try for the a.m.... but no promises. If I don't make it I'll go back and do the weight circuit tomorrow night...

sure, you say that now... but what's it going to take to get rid of the chickens? Geez... at least the ticks were small. Chickens latching on and burrowing their heads in your skin... now THAT's going to show even under baggy clothes.

I don't know why we don't have very many ticks.... is it too wet in Western Washington? - I have seen two ticks in my life.

One of them haunted me for a long time because I pulled it off the dog and it wiggled -- so I pitched a major squealing girlie fit and just threw it straight up in the air. In my living room. I couldn't find it. I gassed that place many times, sure that tick was sitting somewhere watching me and wiggling at me.

According to a local news channel here, the Rangers have them surrounded in the Ardmore, OK Holiday Inn.

Yee-haw!

Well, from what I can gather from the news reports and the thread, there was an official school dance that was integrated for only the second time this year, and the private white party as an alternative. I don't know if there were numerous private parties for every type of credential....

I don't know about what was what. I figure O'Reilly may not have all the facts straight. And then there were all the AP reports who knows if they are accurate. And then all those folks were saying things like they had the absolute scoop on the deal. It sounded like tons of hearsay being passed off as fact to me. So, I didn't have nothin' to say directly to any of the know-it-alls. But, I do know that school sponsored proms aren't as much the norm as when I was in school. Myranda's school back home didn't sponsor prom either... but they did at least have faculty members as chaperones. I think a lot of schools are backing out of those kind of extracurriculars primarily because of some of the behavior *that we've all actually expienced ourselves*! They don't want to be liable.

Racism is disgusting in all forms. The defense of it even as liberty is repulsive. But, I notice that it's also a catch-all topic for gripes people have about the south just because we are the south and people tend to believe that easily. And Georgia is sadly probably one of the worst places for racism. But, as a parent, I was having to ask myself, given the 2 sets of parties, I don't know which I'd have allowed my kid to go to. And my choice would not have been motivated by race, but safety or my knowledge of the chaperones values.

There is a black church that I am very fond of here in town. Not because it is black. But because I love the people there. I would be thrilled for Myranda to take part in any activity there. Some of the white churches I discourage her from visiting. This is gross for me to even type but, given the prom choices in Georgia, I might have had to choose a "white" event because that was the safer place. Unfortunately, if I knew the chaperones at one and not at the other, that could also make my choice unfair and wrong. This is a real B*$%& of a thing to think through.

Or the chickens!

And if the chickens do bite, don't let 'em get their heads buried under your skin! It seems only Ramius knows how to deal with this.

I think you're wise to ignor the ignorrant. Like Corin and the religious wars. It's not worth it. You have made a very valid point. They are so stuck in the defense of their ignorrance that they can't let go.
