The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Wn: we had that as well, seems to have reseeded itself; by the third year it took over a portion of our brick sidewalk. Unfortunately, when we tore up the bricks to relay them, we distrupte whatever special thing was going on, haven't had it back. Quite attractive little ground cover plant.

Our dogs forgot too. But they have been pretty good today. Although, I believe they think every day is Mother's Day.

Gee, I was all messed up. I thought you lived over near either Ellensburg or Wenatche.

Well, with Smeagol, it's Mother's day whenever she doesn't get all in a huff and potty in the house for a long while. She's way too temperamental. And when you tick her off, she likes to hide her surprises. She knows where we both sleep. Where we lay our bodies down. She goes there. Or in our usual sitting down to watch TV seats. It's been a while now. Maybe 3 months. It's Mother's Day.

I hope Jr. watched X-Men in English before switching to French... have you managed to see it yet?

He had already seen it before we got the DVD from Netflix. And he watched it last night and again this afternoon in English. He didn't get very far with it in French.

I just watched it with him. At least I think I did. I dozed through some of it.

Maybe I need to watch it again, or maybe it's that I never read the comic books or watched the show.

I just don't get it.

Mountain range between me and Ellensburg.... Ellensburg is on the Eastern side of the cascades The peak of the Cascades is about at that long traceable line of county borders. They have daily thunderstorms in Ellensburg all summer. That one won't be coming near me.... I think I am hearing this little storm South of Olympia. Kind of embarrasing little storms compared to all the flatlanders.

I've had it several times. Jill's grandparents used to give me a pot almost every year. Theirs always re-seeded and they had more than they had room for so they'd pot it and share it. I like it. The young leaves are edible in salad. I've tasted them but never been organized enough to THINK to put any in my salad when I had it.

At my old house I had a large deck for the front porch. My brother had made me some planter boxes to go on the rail. I used to put it in one of those when they gave it to me. But, it always froze too hard in the winter and never came back for me. I'm sure hoping it will work in this weird place in my yard.

Cold salt-water species.... excellent fishing area.... salmon, cod, crab, shrimps, some halibut up in the straights.

We have sea lions and harbor seals and killer whales too that come into the sound for a break.

I don't know where I got that thought that you were east of the mountains. But, I sure thought you were. This may explain any geographic weirdness in any of my posts to you. When I was trying to remember Leavenworth where my friend is from I told you it was right there close to you. Now that you know my mind is blitzed doesn't that remark make more sense?

Also, explains some of your photos better. They look much more correct near the sound. And I never heard of - what is it where the militia guys are - Capital forest? But, I couldn't figure out why something named "Capital" was east of the mountains! DOH!

I guess that's where I got it. I probably read a post about something else and jumped to a wrong conclusion.

Well, relative to where you are, Leavenworth is quite close to me! But I am closer to Capitol forest...

Well, I've already done my research now and found Capital Forest. Funny thing was, when you were talking about it at first I searched my atlas too. It wasn't there. Because I was looking - you know where. LOL I thought my atlas was just incomplete! It isn't.

Cool! - Well, that is where I do most of my trail riding... many many miles of trails there that are open to horses and hikers, and camping.... and a few lonely militia dudes....

so, the militia dudes. Any of 'em look like elves?

You are under a hazardous weather advisory. But, are you saying that for you that doesn't mean tornadoes? I know there are tornadoes sometimes in Eastern WA. There was one out in the boonies while I lived there.

Not enough trees for me east of Ellensburg..... I need shade! East of Ellensburg is high desert.

Petrified Forest at Vantage Washington, where I-90 crosses the Columbia River.

No - We never have tornados.... Hazardous here means pea sized hail. Not a cloud in the sky at the moment, and the sky is pink, not green.
