The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Yup. And there really is a red sports car in the chariot race.

I heard that's just an urban legend. Is there a screen capture of it?

My own personal movie snaig was in the movie "Zulu", where, in a couple of scenes, the British troops were using Lee Enfields (a rifle from about 40 years in the future), rather than the Martini Henry. I guess they didn't have enough of the proper rifles for all the extras.

The goof appears towards the end of the movie, where you can spot them among the extras in the rear. However, they're quite evident at the last battle scene at the "square", where some are in the foreground. You see troops firing single-shot rifles while some of them are blazing away with bolt action SMLEs.

On the pace lap. In the shot of the track taken over the chariot guys, you can see a dark red convertable going into turn 1.

I couldn't find a picture in Google but I've seen it in the movie. It's at the beginning of the pace lap going into turn 1 at the top of the screen.

Okay, I forget. Who are the Internet game players here?

Jr. wants to play "Everquest." Any thoughts? Is it safe enough for a 14-year-old?

I've never played Everquest but my future brother-in-law does and he says its fun, but it's easy to spend a LOT of time there.

Basically it's a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) with graphics. If you don't mind Jr. interfacing with people from all over and you keep a handle on the amount of time he spends there it will probably be alright.

I'm still debating whether he gets a connection in his room. Right now I'm saying no. But I'm already now competing with the 3-year-old and the wife for computer time...

I play on-line games like Unreal Tournament where there isn't really dialogue or a 'relationship' with anyone, we just shoot at each other.

I don't know how everquest works, but I think gamers are just that - gamers... any conversation is about the game, and idle chit-chat might be unwanted, so I don't think it is as 'risky' as a chat site.

That's okay, if you hadn't made that joke, I'd have come up with another lame one myself (not that your joke was lame).

Clouds are gathering. Just heard thunder. 2 counties west of us have been upgraded to "warning."

But we don't have the open spaces that the mid-west does. There's not quite as much room for them to pick up speed. Of course one did rip the roof off of a Wal-Mart once...

Holy cow piles Batman!

Michael Graham has been talking about the hiker that cut off his arm. He's talking now to a woman caller who cut off her leg at the knee with a pack axe. She's a doctor know and runs marathons with her artificial leg.

I just can't imagine, and I hope I'm never in a situation where I have to find out if I could do that...
