Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I caught the Beatle-bug in sixth grade during that mid-1980's "blast to the past" fad. The Anthology is great- full of Beatles 'videos'. All four are swoonable. *sigh*
To: HairOfTheDog
Ok, nite all. Gotta vaccum and hit the sack.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Huh..... coool.
To: Lil'freeper
Heh, I caught in while in high school in 1979. But the funny thing is, I was a fan of the ex-Beatles individually before I realized they had been in a band together. Yes, I even said, "Paul was in a band before Wings?" Long time ago...
To: HairOfTheDog
Yup... supposedly all the images in the song were hallucinations John had while on LSD.

I can see that.... I drew pictures... "cept one time I went swimming. Swimming was cool. Talk about a sensory overload!

Coo coo ca chooI thought it was "Goo goo ga joob." Hmmm. Anyway, I'm a rather recent convert, thanks to the wonder of mp3 file-sharing.

I thought it was "Goo goo ga joob."That's what it says on the album cover lyrics on the (oh dear) vinyl version of "Magical Mystery Tour".
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
What's "vinyl"? ;-)

Just so long as you don't start quoting "Revolution No. 9", you'll be ok!

Drag when the punch cards got out of order, huh!Yes... or when the reader would jam, or eat your cards, or you dropped your stack... Terminals were so much nicer!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I've heard all about punch cards from my dad. He did a graduate research project in statistics back in the '70's using them.

I had to use them for my first programming class during the first quarter of my freshman year at college. The next quarter the University received a grant that allowed them to buy and install enough terminals that they were finally able to get rid of the card readers. We were all glad of it too!

Well, I remember in high school, 9th grade, watching the Beatles on TV on the Ed Sullivan Show, in black and white. All the girls in the audience were screaming away, one of the guys watching with us remarked correctly about how far American womanhood had descended.
Just kidding, they haven't descended, that was just an aberration.
Then, 5 years later, in college, that walrus song came out. I still haven't bought it though.
To: ecurbh
We had punch cards in college, only that was so long ago, I forgot what we did with them.

My earliest computer experience was a Commodore Pet, back in elementary school. It used a cassette tape as its removable storage device. Then we upgraded to the Commodore 64!
