Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I have seen them both... Count I love. Frequency was okay.

Did you see him in Reign of Fire; the one about the dragons, with Christian Bale (another favorite)? I need to see that! Everyone in my family has seen it but me, and they all liked it a lot. Maybe NEXT weekend, if'n my car doesn't break down again?

They'll renew it. I think it is a combination of 2 and 3... some thing was needed from Sidney for the Rimbaldi device to work and once the machine worked, they shifted her forward 2 years.
Remember, that Sloan recruited Sidney against Jack's expressed wishes... that wasn't an accident. And her mother reminded Sidney that Sidney was the woman in the prophecy.
And it didn't take Vaughn long to recover from his grief.

I don't think that Mel did it for the box office. He did it because he wanted the story to be told correctly. No major studio would touch it (with or without English) because they didn't think it would sell. So, he is doing it without them... the way he wants it done.
I think stories can transcend language... and it will be nice to see this story without the voice in my head going, "that's not what happened. Jesus didn't say that. Why is Pilate doing that?"

And from what I hear, he's a musician too! Likes to play the bongos!LOL! You just had to bring up that incident, no? ;-)

Oooh goodie! A swoon fest!
Caveziel is a class act- hopelessly devoted to his wife and very firm about his moral standards. I saw an interview re the Count and he fought- insisted to the point of walking off the set- to have the love scene toned down to the discrete glimpse we see in the movie out of respect for his wife. If only more actors were like him.
I, too, am fond of Christian Bale- even if he is a wacko-leftist-vegetarian type. His dad is the rich South African who married Gloria Steinem just to get a greencard. He is eyecandy- has such an adorable face. I liked Reign of Fire, too. I'd always thought Mcconaughey a little too effeminate, but not after that role. Yummy.
Hmmm.... who to add to the swoonfest....

Just give me some rugged he-men....the kind that don't drink wimpy pilsners.
Saw Stagecoach last night.

I think Sloane has gone more than a little bit off of his rocker, by the way... although I did love his comment to Jack at the outdoor restaraunt: "I've missed your poker face!" It was perfect, as my wife and I had just been discussing the actor's ability to keep his face intensely expressionless.
And it didn't take Vaughn long to recover from his grief.
Yes, I thought that was kind of fickle on his part. In fact, makes me wonder about a fourth possibility... Sydney hasn't been missing for two years at all; she's been kidnapped and placed in some kind of virtual reality simulation, and the "missing two years" story is just a plant to keep her confused.

With John Wayne? (Speaking of rugged he-men....)

I think stories can transcend language... Yeah - but you are one of those artsy types I was talkin' 'bout! ;~D

Here's another one that would have made a wonderful 'hunky-man-of-Gondor': Eric Etebari, recently of Witchblade fame.

Another vegetable enters the stew... could be.
Any guesses as to what the Rimbaldi device is?

After having to slough through my poetry assignment, nothing could be further from the truth. Every word, every metaphor, every imagery, hell.
No... not artsy at all...

You just had to bring up that incidentHehehe... it was big news here in Austin at the time, and it's become such a local legend that references to it have turned up in local TV commercials!

No... I took English III (a requirement), and I have been mugged with poetry... and short stories... what's worse, I have to write an essay on how I was moved. I was moved all right...

Any guesses as to what the Rimbaldi device is?Well... Rose thinks it may be some kind of time travel device. With all the anachronisms and "prophecies" going on, it certainly could be.
The artificial heart (the last artifact recovered) makes me wonder, though... could it be some kind of artificial body? Perhaps allowing a person to transfer his mind into it, and thus live "forever"?
I really hope that they eventually reveal the secret, and don't leave it always "just out of reach"!

For two years, this show has been so well written, things resolving quickly, not bogging down in soap opera outlandishness.
I can't wait to see what happens next season.
BTW, have you ever heard Victor Garber sing. If not, get the soundtrack to Assassins. He plays John Wilkes Booth and sings one great ballad to explain why he shot Lincoln. (Sounds like a bizarre reason to write a musical, but in the hands of Sondheim, it turns out very, very well)
