The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

They are still working on him...not even a picture up on the internet. He literally could die from the heartworm treatment, it's that major.
As soon as he recovers from this, they will have him fixed and then put him in a foster home to be evaluated. That's when they put the picture on the internet and I'll post it when they do!

corin say something normal guys say and get this out of my head Who Me?
Well, it is Friday. I guess I could pop open a few and stink up the place a bit. But with g'nad gone, I'll need the other guys to help.
We can have a few pints for ecurbh's birthday.

Hair, you would be the BEST BEST foster! That's where a person keeps a dog, trains it, sees how it does in various situations..
I think you would be the BEST!

One of my son-in-laws brothers was in Somalia. My s-i-l doesn't always get it that a female would be interested in hearing war stories (because his wife doesn't get them) but when I asked about his brother his comments were always something along the lines of, "It was really bad there." or "It was something that never should have happened and I should have been there." definitely not enough info for me but there is always an ominious tone when the subject is approached.

you feed the dog eggs?? I was wondering if that would be a good thing to do.
we just recently adopted a Scottish terrier mix...got the full instructions on heartworms etc. He is an adorable dog, about three yrs old, love to play tug of war, fetch and is all around cuddly. He is starting to warm up to my daughter. I have been trying to 'enforce the law' as you suggested Hair...works MOST of the time, but he still follows me around.
In fact, I need to go give him a bath right now...he stinks to high heaven...
ta for now!!

My friend called me from an animal shelter already to tell me what kind of dogs they had!
I told her not to tell me, that I can't see their faces till I am ready, because I will take them all home.
I told Dad about the prices of the German Shepherd breeder I know, $2000 for a pup! EEEEEEK!
I told him that much as I admire that guy's dogs, they are the most magnificent beasts I have seen in a long time, that I just don't need a status dog at this point.
I will probably go to a shelter, and if I tried to predict what I would come out with, I would be wrong. Their faces will break my heart. I would not be able to turn down a Labrador, or a Golden, or a border collie, or some sad mutt that desperately needs someone to love him. I am crying just thinking about it! What a mess.
I need to take Gidget with me when I go though, Gidget is touchy about some dogs.

This is the email I got this morning, when I inquired about Bear...to see how he was...
I checked on him yesterday, his treatment is completed and he's in the activity confinement stage where he is kept calm and quiet so the worm debris doesn't cause a blood clot. We have 2 families interested in seeing him but he'll still need to be neutered. He's young, calm, and attractive so I'm certain he'll place quickly as soon as we get his vetting completed.

As soon as he recovers from this, they will have him fixed and then put him in a foster home to be evaluated. Too bad there are no dwarves around close enough to help me get my fence complete. He could live in my yard..................
But, I don't see the fence happening for at least a year now.

Heh - I would be a dream foster because they would never have to place the dog. It would stay, and the next one, and the next one!

LOL That does happen to a lot of fosters. I knew a greyhound foster that had 5 gorgeous greys...
I loved my greyhound...she just never loved Matthew.

Too bad there are no dwarves around close enough to help me get my fence complete. This dwarf needs to be building a fence of his own. Wish I could be there to help.

I tend to spoil things. kids, grandkids, nephews, nieces, dogs, granddogs, friend's kids if i like 'em. (i don't tend to like a lot of kids that aren't mine but i never met a dog i didn't like - yet)
Smeagol gets an egg friend with garlic liberally slathered over it a couple of mornings a week. Garlic helps keep fleas away, if fleas abound she gets eggs more often. I've heard they are supposed to make the coat shiny too but I think that's raw eggs. Don't know. Hair would know. Lots of people just chew me out for giving the dog eggs. (she also gets leftovers sometimes - everybody deserves a treat.)
To: Wneighbor
I can't see how an egg would hurt the pooch!
I used to give Terra canned pumpkin. She loved it!

It would stay, and the next one, and the next one! Hair, let me speak to Gidget privately for a minute...is she there?
Gidget, you need to go with your mom to get a new dog. A new friend for you and for her.
But you need to remind her not to come home with seven dogs.
Just make sure she remembers that. You can go back to watching TV now. Put your mom back on...
To: 2Jedismom
He's young, calm, and attractive so I'm certain he'll place quickly as soon as we get his vetting completed. I'm so glad. That will be one less thing for us to be concerned about. If not, I might have had to find dwarves to fence-build.
To: 2Jedismom
I used to give Terra canned pumpkin. She loved it!Our old dog Bear that I was telling about the other night liked Hershey's Kisses and Cheetos. I seldom gave her those because I was always getting bawled out for doing it. But, when the vet gave the news of her condition, I stopped at the store and bought both things. For her last little bit she got all the Kisses and Cheetos she wanted.

Thank you so much!
To: Wneighbor
I do too! :D...I used to give the kitties raw egg yolk...they didnt seem to like the white so much...lapped it up greedily everytime...and made for BEAUTIFUL and soft coats. I just wasnt sure it was a good thing for dogs...you know, like chocolate. The lady I adopted from had VERY strict instructions about diet...Im probably very lenient. A few table scraps are a good reward, I think...and dogs are such good "garbage cans" so to speak!! LOL...But I have a couple of weeks before I need to find a good vet...
Will have to see if Gizmo will like raw egg yolk...(I wanted to name him Dramboie, but the rest of the family wouldnt go for it.)
