The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oh, shucks! LOL

Thank you for breakfast! After a stormy night here, the day dawned clear and sunny and everything is sparkling clean.

Steve came home at 9pm and the boys were in bed, but still awake, so they all piled onto the couch and ate some of the cookies I baked and drank milk and listened to the storm. I swear it reminded me of some Normal Rockwell picture.

One of our favorite folk singers died in a plane crash either going to or coming from the Kerrville Folk Festival many years ago. It was Stan Rogers, and we didn't even know about him until after his death.

I like Stan Rogers, too. I only have one of his CDs (Northwest Passage - the title track is my favorite). Like you, I didn't discover him until after he died...though I guess I would have been pretty young when it happened, as I recall. When was the plane crash?

Good morning!

I am washing clothes. More clothes. I don't mind washing clothes, but I can't stand the way clean clothes feel on my hands so I won't fold them. So when I get them out of the drier, I pick them up gingerly with my fingers and lay them out flat on the recliner for Steve to fold. I don't mind putting them away.

Steve hasn't been folding the clothes, so there is the huge mound of clean clothes on the recliner. We've reached a bottle neck. I may have to fold them, Lord help me.

It's a choice between having fun and working in the garden this weekend or watching Steve catch up on folding the clothes. I'll probably end up folding them just so I can have a fun weekend. Ugh.

I like the smell of Tide, though...don't you? Just plain tide. The drier vents into the backyard and makes it smell clean out there! Ha!

I don't like washing dishes either...dirty dishes are disgusting. I don't mind loading the dishes into the washer, or taking them out, but I can't stand running a sink of soapy water and washing the dishes in it. The minute you put a dirty cup into the water, it's contaminated as far as I'm concerned and you should start all over. I can't stand the thought of putting my hands in that contaminated water.

If I wash dishes, I do it under running water. Steve normally washes the "sink" dishes.

I don't care for washing off a chicken either...yuck-ola. But, you gotta do it if you want good homemade fried chicken...and since I love it and so do the boys...I wash that chicken. Then I practically sanitize my hands and the entire sink. When Steve is home, he washes the chicken for me.

I'll be glad when this semester is over. I think that's the point of this.

Hlothran was Farmer Cotton's last name. It's derived from the definition that ecurb gave...means Cottager.

It was the only one I had to look up, too...the rest I knew.

Morning Hair!

I blinked at that too! LOL!

OK, I'll ask...

2J - What about the clothes is so uncomfortable on your hands? You'd think the dirty ones might feel icky, but the clean ones?

We're constantly doing laundry in our house. It's usually folded by whoever happens to be out of skivvies at the moment...

They feel...I don't know...dusty? Puffy? Slidey? Like I can't get a good grip on them.

I don't like dealing with potatoes either, but I can just pour them directly into the sink and rinse them before I ever pick them up!

Dirty ones don't bother me (well, Steve's underwear bothers me...but I manage to put it in the washer along with other stuff...never actually touching it.) But our regular cloths and the boys stuff never bothers me that it's dirty. That slippery puffy feeling is gone by then.
