The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"only mourn the joys that I think I am missing out on." So funny, that is exactly what married people are always thinking.
However, truthfully, IMO, if one is lucky enough to be married to the right person, living and sharing together, raising a family together, these things come pretty close to what I imagine is the soul satisfying fulfillment humans are designed for.

Well, up until the time one is thirty, there is plenty to do for a single person that would be enviable. But beyond 30, those things have lost their appeal, and thoughts turn to who will be there for me when I am 64?

I hereby rescind my previous post and stand behind Corin's assessment. Write this down folks. It doesn't happen that often.
It actually comes from something the Mrs. told me long ago. It was not long after I'd had my cancer episode and my f-i-l was dealing with the first round of after effects from his cancer. The Mrs. went over to see a friend in Greensboro (her hometown). The friend had not too long in the past been through a very ugly divorce.
They talked about what you say to people when folks say "let me know if there is anything I can do?"
What Cindy said to her still sticks with me, she said "How do you say to someone 'can you just come over and hold my hand?'"

And you've read "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus". Actually no I haven't. But I've done a lot of men's seminars through Promise Keepers and stuff like that.
Most I've learned from experience.

...and thoughts turn to who will be there for me when I am 64? I will! :)

...she said "How do you say to someone 'can you just come over and hold my hand?'" Wow. Now, that'll stick with me too.

Sure thing! Why do I keep humming the theme from The Graduate?
Bad dwarf. Bad, bad dwarf...

HA! And by that age my kids will be grown and I'll be free to travel and visit for however long I please!
My dream retirement is to have enough dough to get an RV and travel the US. I want to see it all! Will you come with me? At least to Vegas?
Then, after I grow tired of the road, I want to come home to a small cozy place and help raise my grandkids.

I am happy to be married. There was a brief time we both questioned it, but mostly it has been, and is, everything I could have wished for. It lets me know that, unlike the business proverb, some people truly are irreplacable. In my life, Jeanne and the kids are not replacable. So it has been a great thing, unimaginable really, for Jeanne and me.
And yet, Hair, very very few of the couples we knew 30 years ago, when Jeanne and I were first together, have managed to keep their marriages. Most are on their 2nd, or are divorced, or are still married but unhappy. I guess choosing right is everything, and even though we did choose right, I'm not sure how we managed it. But I thought I would do anything for her 30 years ago, and still think so today.
Very lucky, blessed.

I would like to take at least one leisurely trip 'round the country in an RV.
I drove cross the country once, but really fast. Covered the distance in 3 days. Would like to slow down and see some things.

So it comes to this.... A bunch of old farts drivin' round the country in a winnebago!
I can hardly wait to get old now!

OK then...that settles it. We must plan for a Hobbit Hole RV excursion in the future. :)
Picture this...a caravan of Hole Dwellers cruising the highways and byways of America. Wheeeee!

Very lucky, blessed. You can say that again!
Besides, she puts up with you drawing naked, hairy-butt men, doesn't she? *grin*

Note to self: Make sure the Winnebago has good ventilation at highway speeds.

LOL! I am picturing us like that old lady in the commercial when she says "SIN CITY BABY! HAHAHAHHA!"
I hope we can actually go on one or two trips a year together when we get older. If I win the Lotto, I'll treat all of us to a trip to New Zealand!
