The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, Steve came in this morning and told me that about a third of our biggest tree broke off. But the good news is, it "barely" missed the fence! Whew!
I gotta call the plumber back. I really can't do anything till we get the blown up spigot in the garage fixed. I have no water.
Good thing I was prepared...I don't think I'll ever not store water again!

Trees I understand too. I keep looking at some of the limbs on our oaks and just praying that they'll stay up until we can afford to have them taken down.

Okay, Ruthie said she might not get here and somebody else might have to do breakfast. So, how about if I dish out some taquitoes? Egg, chorizo, bacon, sausage, tater and cheese all fixed up together on nice fresh hot tortillas? Fix 'em with what you want on 'em. Lots of Pico de Gallo and salsa. Sour cream if you want it. Some fresh warm empanadas, pineapple or sweet tater for anybody wanting something sweet. Lots of STRONG coffee. All that fixin' stuff for coffee is somewhere around here, I might have to search a minute for it. Juice - all kinds in the fridge. Oh, and vital to all slow starting days, there's Red Bull in the pantry if you need it.
PS, if none of the Mexican breakfast sounds good I still have some homemade bread leftover from this weekend and 2 shelves full of assorted homemade preserves and jellies. (The apricot habanero is the best of the jellies.)

Good thing I was prepared...I don't think I'll ever not store water again! I'm sorry for you troubles again this morning. I'm glad you store water. I always store water. People always want to know what the containers of water are for when they see them. there's clueless. just clueless. Everybody needs to have it.

Woo hoo! Thanks for breakfast Wneighbor!
My guess is that the g'nads are packin' up today and he's just been too busy to check in. The movers are coming today.
Travel safe brother dwarf. Let us know when you've arrived safely home.

I believe it's the Devil. I seriously do. I had only a couple of days to rejoice that we were going to be out of debt, when all this happened.
And now my car is saying "Eeeeeee"!

I had a big pecan tree go down last night too. It's minor stuff compared to 2J's so its not really a problem. It just took out 2 of 3 lines on my clothesline but now I have to try to get this huge thing taken out of here. I don't have a chainsaw. This is the 3rd tree that's fallen in my yard since I bought this house - somethings wrong with that. And the last tree (smaller than this one) some guy wanted $500 to cut it and haul it off. I didn't have the money, it is now the centerpiece of my new landscaped herb garden in the front yard.

Does it make you feel any better if I tell you that my oak trees are three times that tall? Probably not.
Don't be discouraged 2J. Remember, as Christians we believe we're not home yet. Life is supposed to suck here.
I heard someone say recently that maybe God doesn't solve all our problems because He knows that's the only way to get us to talk to Him.
The biggest lesson I learned from my cancer experience was to take one thing at at time. That's hard to do.
But we're here to fetch yer medicine. Work thru the things and come in here to blow off steam.

Actually, although it's disheartening, I'm doing ok. I just called the plumber, so I should get off line so he can call me back. But the tree isn't so bad...OT's was worse! Just really kinda funny, more than anything. My heart is singing that it missed our fence! That fence means a lot to me!
And well, there's nothing I can do about the plumbing...I'll hope for the best, till I hear the worst!

Why are all your trees breaking? Was it really windy last night or what?
Hullo! Good morning!

Hello, Good Morning!
Personally, I think the trees are breaking because God didn't put trees in this area, man did. Well, trees are good and I'm glad that this city has planted so many trees that people don't really know now that there were NOT trees here 100 years ago. But, just from the little digging I've done on my property and the trees that have fallen, I've seen that the roots are not going deep. They are very shallow. I have another tree that's been about to fall since I moved in. It hasn't fallen yet but its roots are actually pulled up out of the ground on one side. WEIRD.
When I replant I will not plant trees that really need deep rooted systems.

I can understand the plumbing and the car being the devil, but what has he got against your trees? Remember Saruman? He cut down all the trees too.

Thank you both!
