The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hey, but that's pretty much everyone.

Yeah, I pointed that out...he said "Correct". ;-) I don't agree, though it DOES bother me when people who are never there buy a dog and keep it chained outside for days at a time. Fiona is alone more than some dogs, but she's not neglected!

How are things going with your new mandolin? Are you playing a lot more since you got the new one?

Hmm...not really possible! ;-) I have been enjoying it very much, though. I love it.

Good morning! Supposed to be in the 70s today!

Then it's supposed to get cold and do the wintry mix thing again, but I'm trying to forget that...

I guess I should haul some more branches up to the road so I can mow more weeds.

I have to do some tearing down...at the foot of the hill behind my house, one of the previous owners built a sort of picnic area thing...a three sided thing with concrete blocks as a floor. It's really ugly and starting to come apart, and I have ideas for what to do with both the blocks and the wood. I want to get started! But it'll be too cold this weekend!

Letter from the chaplain!

I got this letter from the chaplain just this morning. Remember that article I posted a few days ago? He gave one of our footballs to that group of people! Here is the email...

Good Morning Kim,

Once again, I say Wow! One of my "superiors" was in my office area when my Assistant and I began to open the five care package boxes that came in on Sunday (I think). He asked the common question, "Who sends you all this stuff Chaplain?" I told him about "meeting" you through a mutual friend in Oklahoma and your heart to help soldiers. I read him a couple of the emails you sent which describe the great Americans of The Hobbit Hole. [See...I've been telling him all about you!] When I showed him the "Lord of the Rings" extended edition he said,"Wow!" When we brought the packages to the Power House, I took pictures of my Assistant opening the boxes and dispersing all of the good stuff. I also took several pictures of the inside of the Power House. There is even a picture of the dwindling supply of sunscreen which has been graciously taken care of. I took them with a digital camera, so as soon as we finalize the disk and load them on the computer, I'll send them your way.

I'm glad that the sunscreen didn't come from France! (Ha, Ha)[A Hole Dweller has supplied 150 bottles of sunscreen that is German military surplus, it was a very good deal!]

I gave one of the footballs to our Medical Company (from the article that I sent) so they can throw it around during their slow periods.

God is good! We have some wonderful Americans who have continued to send packages to the Power House despite what's going on down the block in Iraq. I've been encouraging our soldiers to go by and get some stuff! We've been blessed! We'll work on getting some pictures with the camera you sent. I'll have to depend on the Chaplain Assistants to work on that because I'm not at the Power House most of the day.

Thank you again for everything. We are greatly encouraged and blessed by your patriotism, generosity and support. We covet your prayers and feel their effects everyday.

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Honored and Humbled to serve for God and Country,

82d Airborne Division
Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan
"Renegade Chaplain"

Have you two scheduled your Frodo days? Let me know, and when you have him at the Alamo I will pick him up from you guys there or in Austin.

We've been drying out this week. I hope more rain holds off until I can get my garden work done. But then with my luck, as soon as I plant seeds, drought will hit!

We haven't scheduled unless Bear did it after I left here yesterday. I was wondering about some of us mooting while Frodo was in central Texas. That would be fun.

I will just go ahead and throw out that the last week of May would not be good for me to have Flat Frodo due to a ministry trip I have to make being Memorial day weekend AND the following weekend Myranda graduates from high school!!! YEA!!!

Other than that 2 weekend/week span I was just thinking I would be amenable to ya'll. I only teach Mondays and Wednesdays in the summer. Myranda will be in Germany all June. (She did want to see Frodo but heck, she's seeing Germany AND MY GRANDKIDS!) I've been looking around thinking Frodo might love the wildflowers out right now but I'm so swamped at work I couldn't take him anywhere for at least 2 weeks. I do have time off from work from My 7 to 22 although Myranda is still in school then so I can't do a lot of weekday traveling.

This is long. Morning all.

okay, now i started out the day with tears again. All those tears are prayers for those guys. That was such a touching note. That guy has no idea how much HE is blessing us does he?

Mine all washed into the neighbors yard last week. Ironically, I was planting stuff there to help with the run off...

In my case, I've got the cold to deal with. I finally have a few little green things coming up where I planted the tulips...and we're supposed to get snow over the next few days. I hope they survive - if they actually ARE tulips and not just weeds. They're too little (and I'm too ignorant) to tell for sure!
