Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

HAHAHAHahahahahaha..... beauty, Ruthie!!
I'll try to make the actual story of the screen name short: when I first got on the internet in 1998, I used to sign on in places as Arglebargle IV. If you read Harvard Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings", this was in a footnote early on about a king: "Either Arglebargle IV or somebody else". I'd read the book in 1970 but always remembered this, so I used it as a screen name. But everyone and their sisters asked for explanations, which I very quickly got tired of giving, so I shortened it to Argh.
I'm sorry there's no more gruesome, sado-masochistic reason behind this, Miss Ruth. If I ever get time, maybe I can make up something really juicy for you!

Be sure to ask Wneighbor to assist you in that endeavor. She was prepared to offer us a tantalizing sample of her adult imaginings! LOL!!
Cool explanation re: your screen name though. Mine is soooo dreary and unoriginal!

I couldn't find any pictures of Bugs Bunny putting out a Balrog with seltzer water!I guess we're just lucky that Warner Bros. didn't produce the movies, or the Balrog would have had its own cartoon series by now...

Are you all listening to the Rummy briefing? I think Rummy has had about as much "freedom
of the press to miss the point" as any man can take.

Don't shoot the messenger! - Wouldn't *you* want warning that a Balrog had come?I think it is the "Ai!" part Bear is criticizing. After much research and study, it seems that "Ai!" is Elvish for "Eek!"

Gimli stared with wide eyes. `Durin's Bane! ' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.He was just embarassed for his good friend Legolas.

it seems that "Ai!" is Elvish for "Eek!" which rhymes with squeek...

I bet there is something that sounds like "Ai!" in those battle cries and marching songs you Marines and Soldiers know... Search your memories....

Didn't say nothin' in the text about Legolas dropping his weapon when the Balrog came.
I do not blame the dwarf for his fear, for the most courageous go forward (fast) in spite of fear.... I only brought up the dwarf to show that all the brave were afraid, and Legolas wailing "Ai!" was perhaps the only sane reaction when a Balrog has come!

To: 2Jedismom
Yeah.... Ari and Rummy were both pissed too, answering lots of stupid questions, Bush began by defending against the media spin and then retelling how we are in fact playing this the right way, almost on the defensive though, instead of as a point of great pride. How does the administration put a positive spin on how we are doing? The negativity of the press should sound like it is coming from outer space, not letting them control the mood - but they are controlling the mood. I wish I could help turn the spin... I don't know how to do it either... just rambling thoughts.
