Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

As long as you're in the mood, Miss Hair, you might have a crack at ungaying ol' Orlando Bloomers...

I liked Myst, but got bored with Riven. Got to where I discovered the fire marbles, then kind of tired of the thing. Occasionally have thought about going back and trying to beat it.

but hadn't Duncan Idaho been killed? I thought in 'Messiah' he was some sort of ghoul. How is it that Alia hooked up with him? Was he 'resurrected' for this series? All correct! Duncan Idaho was killed in the Harkonan (sp?) attack, but some of his corpse was saved. A minor species who's name I can't spell but sounds like Ta-lax-ee-yew, attempts to gain political favor and inserts itself into the intrigue by making a clone of Idaho. The Idaho ghola (sp?) is programmed to assassinate Muadib. The clone wasn't supposed to have any of the original's memories but...somehow... Idaho does and remembers his loyalty to the Atreides. The plot fails. Plots within plots.
Now, Alia's got serious problems. All those lives within her, but no way to cope. Her brother was always her strength and in his absence she clings to his most trusted advisor- Idaho. It has been many years since I've read the book, so I'm able to take the movie at face value. I don't remember why Idaho marries her, but there is no reason for him to in the movie. She is needy, demanding, and manipulative- all highly motivating for a guy to get out of dodge, not marry the gal.
Regardless, I'm enjoying the movie and am appreciative that they are helping me imagine the political intrigue that I had a hard time grasping when I read it as a kid. I especially loved the opening quote of episode II:
"Every revolution carries within it the seeds of its own destruction."
How true that is! And one of the reasons these stories are such enduring classics.

"fix up", huh?
So now you're going to take the very last Hobbit away!? I looked at Sam and Rosie beat me back, cautiously glanced at Frodo and was nearly beheaded by you, Alkhin is quite possessive of Pippin, so I am working my way towards settling for Merry and now this! How brutally unfair!
*grin*

Speaking of a cry for help, where's g'naldo?
To: Corin Stormhands
g'naldo ??? I can't figure out how that's a compliment. (but then maybe I'm being dense...) Did I miss something earlier on the thread?
To: Lil'freeper
I can't figure out how that's a compliment. I don't know that it were meant to be...;-)
To: Corin Stormhands
Awh, and here I thought you were all nice and stuff. ;)

Is it art?
What is his deal? And how does one man in a tractor stop a city?

An unidentified man waves an American flag from the tractor he drove on the grounds near the Washington Monument, Monday, March 17, 2003, in Washington. Police were in a standoff with the man they said drove the tractor into the pond on the Washington Mall. Constitution Avenue and other downtown thoroughfares were blocked off, causing major traffic jams throughout the nation's capital, as authorities said they were concerned about the possibility the man could have explosives.
