The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Did the Casabalanca chat go off last night?

I got home from church and was looking for it at about 8:30pm but I couldn't find it on. Did the schedule change or did I get my days mixed up?

The African Queen was on Saturday night. We flipped back and forth between that and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Oh, BTW, good morning to you OT. Happy St. Patty's Day. ;^)

Dune and Children of Dune were on last night. Sci-fi channel is doing a bang-up job with these productions.

Uhhhhh....I jumped the gun on Casablanca. It's on next Sunday opposite the Oscars. I did see Guys and Dolls, though.

Hobbit Hole Dwellers, May I have your attention please...

I may be moving to a new city soon due to a new job.  During the transition time (and the extended training time required in yet another city), I will likely be unable to post any of the Daily Tolkien or Tolkien Virgin articles for at least a month or two.

In addition, if I do start this new job, the travel requirements of the job may also cause some interference with posting the articles, but I don't yet know to what extent.

I appeal to the Hobbit Hole Dwellers for any assistance that you may be able to provide to help maintain the Daily Tolkien threads.

For the time I will be training and transitioning to the new city, one idea is that 1 person could post the Tolkien Virgin articles (every Monday and Friday), another person could take responsibility for the Suite 101/Michael Martinez Daily Tolkien articles (every Tuesday and Thursday), and yet another person could post the random, multi-source Tolkien articles on Wednesdays.

For the random Wednesday articles, I could provide links to many articles that I have already found to make it easy for the person who decides to help with this day.

Or, if 1 person wants to take over the project for a while, that would be great too.

Or, if 5 people would like to do so, with each person taking a specific day, or any other combination, that too would be awesome.

Anyone interested in helping out in any way, please let me know.

Jame

I did see Guys and Dolls, though.

Back in the early 90s, I saw Lorna Luft in Guys and Dolls at the Kennedy Center.

Hello James!

Well speaking for myself, I have appreciated your effort in getting that idea started, but with everything else, I haven't really been able to read many of them, let alone post. Sorry, there is just a lot going on! - Between the job and trying to keep up with folk here and the news, there just isn't often time for deep thinking on stuff that is not 'breaking'. There haven't been a lot of posters on the threads. I do hate to see you going to the work when we can't bother to read them and get a conversation going many of the days. Perhaps 'daily' is just too much for everyone, and when you get back, we could settle on one or two days per week of the kind of articles that most interest everyone.

The one that I think is really cool is the Tolkien Virgin guy, but even with that, I am not really reading along, just reading his reactions to it. I do have to say it would be more interesting to read Silmarillion from a scholar who could tie together the connections with LoTR for a 'bigger picture' understanding, but it is interesting watching him struggle with it.

Good morning g'nad!

As long as we are getting started with revolting poisons, here are a few green beers for everyone!

My step-dad, the one who took care of my Mom for her last years and made them as wonderful as they could be, died on St. Paddy's day. He was a drinker, scotch in his hand tellin' stories that got harder to follow by late in the evening. I have his scotch glass, and try to get ahold of some scotch to drink in his honor every year. I will at least have a beer later for him!
