Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Apparently it's a message board. Oh no.... It's "TOS" whistle board.

I was just reading about the baptist church you were posting about in that other thread. You were very logical.
My only comment would be the guy shouldn't be running the church, because the Word says that if a man can't control his household, he shouldn't be in a position of leadership in the church. It's why a divorced man (even if she left him) can't usually be a Southern Baptist minister. Southern Baptists are autonomous and this may vary from church to church, but I imagine it's pretty firm. I belonged to a congregation that intended to fire their pastor, because his son was arrested for drugs. He gave a moving talk about it, and then resigned gracefully. I admired him greatly, but think he did the right thing.
This is an Independent Baptist church...I don't know much about them.

Ok! I already have an account. You put what you want in there, and I'll put your name and address in with the package. That way, they can write you back and then you can take it from there, how does that sound?

It is curiously empty that I don't know anyone over there this time. Gulf war I did. The Airborne Ranger who loved me in high school was there. He came home safe, but died while on leave scuba diving. Irony.I dated a guy in high school my senior year that had just joined the air force. I use to send him fresh baked cookies, no kidding. I dumped him.
I've felt so terrible about it for so long that I'm trying to make up for it with every box I send.

Thank you.... I have been wondering if you might have thought the mother was a stupid cow! I do.
I can see the basis for the pastor needing to have a tidy house. As for this preacher staying on, I think the circumstances of the son's actions would be relevant to how I felt about it, whether the son was a youth or adult when it happened... If he was a youth and these were girls he dated and couldn't take a 'no' from, or if he were and adult and groping girls who he should have had no personal relations with. If he was a youth, it makes the father more 'culpable' for the actions of the son than if the son was an adult. Or maybe that part of it doesn't matter.
The whole story is strange.
But as for preacher's kids and pastors resigning if the family went haywire, all I can say is some of my wildest friends in High School were preacher's kids. I don't think they got caught!

I haven't been to C and F in days...I just got totally disgusted with them and abandoned the entire place. I hear on my yahoo whistle egroup that it's been down. I hope there is a great big flushing sound with it.

Yeah, and not all S. Baptist churches are that strict. But the divorce rule rarely gets looked over.
My church changed to "traditional" services at 9am and "contemparary" at the 10:30am services. I think it's funny, because they don't have a choir, but a "Praise Team" in the second service. I call them the "Cheerleaders"...Gimme a J! Gimme an E! Gimme an S-U-S! What's that spell??? Jeeeeesus!!!!
I knew things were going down the tubes when they put a song on the great big monster screens that said "I'm gonna praise Him". Pardon me? Gonna? I was embarrassed my son had to read it.

My Airborne Ranger loved me as honestly as a high school kid can, but I did not return the attraction. I liked him a lot, and still have his letters. He wrote me poems!
He believed in me when I fantasized about being a she-pilot flyin' F-16s (They were just beginning to let wimmin fly fighters then), and he decked a guy (in the middle of school) who I was dating who had treated me badly. But I felt for him like a friend and another brother.
He was a geeky guy who was tall and gangly and uncool then, but knew everything military and wanted to be a Ranger so bad that he did it. And he "found himself' there. He was in his element. Went to Panama, Went to the Gulf. Drowned on vacation. It was such a surprise.

I haven't been there since the cheese eating surrender monkey post.

I wish I could find the guy I dumped and apologize. It's one of the few things I really wish I could make right about my past. The rest is just water under the bridge, but this...I really think I did a bad thing when I dumped that guy. He was an orphan...lived with an uncle and aunt that provided for him but that was it. And he really liked me. I still feel bad. I look him up on the internet now and then...just to see if I can find him. He would have been 20 years in the Air Force if he stayed in...I wonder if he did.

Yeah... I have two in my past who I spurned and then later found that I rather wished I had been more deserving of!
Well, the guys who get your packages now appreciate it, no matter what guilt drives you! ;~D

I wonder if there is a way to find someone in the Air Force or used to be in the air force?
He was at Barksdale Air Force base back in 1980-81.

There might be 'reunion' type clubs, by division or smaller groups, maybe even by year.... Someone who knew him then... I don't know.
While I was feeding horses, I was remembering my friend.... How after his funeral, over beer, all of us who knew him were theorizing that maybe he wasn't 'really' on vacation when he died at all, maybe it was some secret mission. And that led us to wondering if he wasn't really dead at all, but in some super secret commando raider type group. Heh.... He would have liked that we thought that. ;~D

Thanks muchly for the prayers and for the computer advice.
I'm just popping in for a minute 'cause I'm still a little wired from a Venti Starbucks Latte. (but with skim milk).
Luke is doing fine, but is spending the night in the hospital. According to the Dr. his tonsils were VEY HUGH. In fact this Dr. (who isn't exactly Mr. conversationalist anyway) had a hard time describing them. He called them "meatball sized" and "manly tonsils" and once even referred to them as "Iowa tonsils" whatever the heck that means.
Luke had a bit of difficulty keeping his oxygen levels up after the anesthesia. We were told this is pretty normal in kids his size, and a friend of ours who is a nurse there (and also the parish nurse at church) concurred. He finally woke up to eat some jello around 4:30 and then by 8:00 tonite was asking for chicken and fries. He settled for the noodles from some chicken soup. But that's a good sign. When I left around 11:00 p.m. he was sleeping and breathing smoothly.
I had to go by Wal-Mart on the way home (because Food Lion is no longer 24 hrs....grrrr) and buy some dog food. So I went ahead and took the rest of the list. I just put those things away and am heading to bed.
I'll prolly check in tomorrow a.m. and try to get caught up on reading the posts while Jr. is getting ready for school. Once he's on the bus I'll head back to the hospital so the Mrs. can go on to school. Luke will probably come home sometime in the a.m.
Tomorrow afternoon I'll drive down to Virginia Beach for the memorial service for my cousin. So, I'll be away most of tomorrow.
As an aside, flipping thru the channels at the hospital tonight I saw Jessica Lange on CNN....what an airhead commie plastic-faced idiot b*tch...but I digress.
g'nite
