The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good Morning! Happy Monday! Merry Christmas!

We made it to our second viewing last night, sans chatting teenagers, and were able to get fully absorbed in it finally. Yesss!!! Loved it! Viewing #3 will probably have to wait until next weekend.

Have been away from the keyboard quite a bit lately as Big'ol announced that we are going to buy a house and so we have been out shoppin'. It is still very exciting- I refuse to stress until after Christmas.

OT, pretty nasty pics of yer ice storm... glad I missed it...

BTW, the Missus had a high speed ultra-sound last week... she's a high risk pregnancy due to bein over 35... we're not worried... the good news is, I'll need to forge another axe, it's a little he-dwarvling... Baruk Khazad!

How far is your new homestead from Stilwell, KS?

Mapquest says 182 miles... about a two hour drive... if I'm drivin'...

Good Morning!

OT, pretty nasty pics of yer ice storm... glad I missed it...

I didn't come off too bad...no holes in the roof and the car's okay. The worse part was listening to wood crack and wondering where the tree will fall.

Hurry up and see The Movie, will ya. We've got some elf-bashing to do!

I hope he's rich, because after feeding hobbits, dwarves, Gondorians, Elves, and a few undecideds, he won't be...

Well, I am rich in Christ, but that hasn't translated to monetary wealth (I suppose I could become a Kenneth Copeland or Benny Hinn).

We'll do what we can and to paraphrase President Bush, "No Hobbit will be left unfed." ;^)

Think they'd ship a coney?

Yep! They ship coneys. Ardeng Rabbit. I'm not sure what the shipping costs are, though.

For everyone wanting to read the tales of Middle Earth from the beginning, starting next Monday (Dec 30th) I will be posting the "Tolkien Virgin" articles twice a week (every Monday and Friday). If you would like to read along or even just comment on the impressions that the Tolkien Virgin writes about as he reads Tokien for the first time, this will be a nice leisurely pace with which to do so.

The articles start with the Silmarillion and will cover The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings in that order. If you follow along with the articles, you will work your way through all of the above books finishing Return Of The King at about the same time the third movie is released.

The first article begins with The Silmarillion, starting with The Ainulindalë. This will be discussed Monday. I will post a reminder here at the end of this week so that everyone that wishes to follow along will have notice to prepare and read the portion discussed.

Becky was very sick today...

I always think it must be harder on the parents than on the little ones when they are like that, and have to have the same treatment she did. At least they'll eventually forget it, but mom and dad won't.

I hope this Monday finds her doing better.

I just checked out your homepage and see that you are a Florida FReeper. I think we Florida HH'ers may be the most numerous. Are you anywhere near Melbourne or Miami?

Right... I meant starting at TTT, but should we start the discussion at the beginning of TTT, or at Chapter 5, where we stopped before?

Could we try keeping it on this thread this time? Maybe that will help participation.

Congratulations Master Dwarf!!! I'll be praying Mrs. g'nad has an uneventful pregnancy.

I guess the only way to tell a he-dwarf from a she-dwarf is when they're nekkid. *shudder*

I'll be looking forward to those posts. I was going to start posting chapter summaries from The Silmarillion over here for discussion, but it sounds like your threads may be the place to do it.

Although I kind of like the idea of keeping everything on this thread.

Merry Christmas Jame.
