Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I would advise not debating anyone...but that's just me. I would just ignore them pointedly and maybe state that the workplace isn't a place for debate and you don't intend to feed into unprofessional conduct.Yeah...I agree. Usually I wouldn't have said anything, and I'm feeling sort of bad that I did...but he's constantly making comments about Bush and conservatives in general, and I felt like I had to at least make him aware that we don't necessarily all agree. Maybe I should have just kept my yap shut.
To: g'nad
So where's the problem?
To: Overtaxed
LOL... in my mind, there's not... but I do need to clean up the timber a little...
To: carton253
Hi Carton, how are you, sorry to not respond yesterday, went out for awhile and didn't check back with the computer.
I read the book, "We Were Soldiers Once," liked it, though it was very intense. What is Hart's War about?
To: Sam Cree
You need to see the movie of We Were Soliders. Mel Gibson does a wonderful job... it is well told from all sides. When the wives were passing out the telegrams... I felt for them so much.
Harts War takes place in a Nazi concentration camp. Hart is the Colonel in charge. There is a murder and a trial and a huge surprise. I liked it so much that when I returned it to the video store, I bought a previously viewed copy. Tremendous!

Good for you! As long as the debate doesn't get out of hand, I say stand your ground!
To: g'nad
Ya got crooked trees.

Good morning/afternoon, all
Well, we're surviving Austin's "wintry mix". Town received about an inch of ice overnight, so most everything is shut down. Rose stayed home today, we weren't going to chance the roads; when she tried to call in to her job to tell them, she couldn't get ahold of anyone to tell, so apparently she wasn't the only one staying home. Hope no one has trouble with a Dell system today...
No tree limbs down here, luckily. Temperature is about 25 degrees; weather "professionals" are predicting a high of 35, but I somehow doubt that. Chance for more rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow this afternoon and evening, too.
Have a good day all!
To: carton253
Hey carton... long time no speak... The wives passing out the telegrams is heart-rending, but not at all accurate... great flick though...
will check out Hart's War at your recommendation...
To: HairOfTheDog
I can show ya some crooked trees.
To: HairOfTheDog
what can I say... they ain't pine trees... thank God... I got no pine trees on the place... got a few cedars though...
To: g'nad
Well, it is a movie. I can overlook the accuracy part. It brings the wives back into the picture and shows us that side of war and the loss inflicted on the families.
To: g'nad
Cedars of Lebanon? ;-)
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
My daughter took off today too. She works for AMD. She told me there was an inch of ice on everything. Her husband tried to go in to work (works at AMD too), but returned 3 hours later because he couldn't get there. The 18 wheelers are playing bumper cars in the traffic, from what she told me she saw on the news.

Cedars are cool.... But what have you got against pine trees?
To: g'nad
Interesting woods, they look like they've been thinned at some point. I figure that trees on the ground is just part of woods, though, between age and storms. Is Missouri an area that has many tornados, like I am thinking it might be?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
so... you two lovebirds gonna spend a little quality time together?...
To: 2Jedismom
Do you think a blow dryer or a heat gun could get the door unstuck? Hate to pour water, since it'll probably freeze later.
To: carton253
True... I just dislike it when history gets "amended"...
To: RosieCotton
good one Rosie...
