Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I remember when I was in Paris...Yeah, I was in Paris once and stopped in a McDonald's. I tried ordering some french fries and the girl was pretending she didn't understand what I meant. I had to say the words "Pommes Frites" to get my stinking fries.
stupid french......

Was it the McD's down from the Champs Elesee? (sp?)
I remember some burger place near there, had a disco floor...lights and such.
I didn't like Paris. Then, we went out in the country and ordered a meal...apparently you just order a meat and they deliver all the side dishes along with it. Well, we didn't know and tried to order side dishes. The woman shreiked at us and stalked off...we sat in stunned amazment...didn't know what to do! Get up and leave or what? A few minutes later, here came the entree we'd ordered and all the side dishes along with it. It was delicious, but a really odd experience.
I didn't think much of the whole country, and this was back in the early 80s.

I have this friend, Pete, who's an Army Ranger... He was major assigned to the French Contingent in Bosnia as a Liaison... he'd been with the frogs (whom he despises btw) for about a month when a couple of the French officers asked him "Pierre, how come you don't speak ze French?"... Pete's answer, without missing a beat, was in a cheesy French accent "Because I don't want to sound like ze faggot..." he had a job change the next day...
he's my hero...

he's my hero... On that note I will say: Good Morning everyone!
Been sitting here getting caught up and sipping coffee.
I have a busy day before me, so I may be scarce 'round these parts, hope everyone has a good day!

Was it the McD's down from the Champs Elesee? (sp?)I think so. It was right next to the Arch of Triumph(or whatever they call it).
There were some beautiful things about Paris, the buildings, the river, but it was also very dirty. There was trash all over the place. I don't know if that is typical of big cities, but I think they could have tried a little harder to tidy the place up.
