Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

caffeine......maybe I should just go for a Coke
To: Overtaxed
Coffee has a lot more
caffeine than Coke...

I don't know if there is a Quik Trip in Lebanon, but I am sure there is in Springfield. Have you had their coffee yet?
I especially like their Columbian Supremo. It's a little darker than regular coffee, but has a nice smooth taste.
QT's are the places to stop. They put a great deal of effort into being CLEAN and friendly. If they aren't doing well each year, they sell the places. QT won't have a run-down store.

Didn't see a QT... doesn't mean they don't have one... they got a Casey's on the way to town...
I make my own coffee... have a hard time findin' coffee I feel is of the proper strength...
To: RosieCotton
Yay! Found a kind soul down the hall with extra styrofoam cups and coffee!
Coffee in 10 minutes.
To: Overtaxed
Hooray! Disaster averted!
To: g'nad
Well, they also have a dark roast that is too strong for me...
They also have those capuccinno machines, if you're wife is in to that kinda thing. Joshua and I like to get one of them (I cut mine in half with the supremo) and we share it.
Yeah, I'm a terrible mother, giving coffee to my 4 year old. At least I'm not as bad as Ruthy...

I can't help wondering how that stuff got the name "cappuccino"...it's nothing like the real thing. I like one once in awhile, but I struggle with the name.
Guess I'm a snob, huh? ;-)
To: RosieCotton
LOL I know! It's like a powder, that mixes with hot water as it comes out! More like a vanilla flavored hot chocolate mix!
It's really overwhelmingly sweet, which is why I cut it with the supremo...about half and half.
Every now and then, I just gotta have one.

I have a 12 cup Braun, and I put in two heaping 1/3 cup measures... so basically, I use just under a cup of grounds for a pot... more if I'm in a gungy mood...
I won't even begin to tell yuh about when I'm in the field...

I can't help wondering how that stuff got the name "cappuccino"...Well, the word is derived from two other words...capo which means "head", and c(h)ino which, of course, is a type of pants worn by upper-crust people. So when put together: capo-c(h)ino, you get the sense of a drink that only brainy, upper-crust people drink.
Of course I may be mistaken....

Of course I may be mistaken.... ummm.... I'll buy it....
To: ksen
Smark aleck!
But what I meant was that if you go to Italy (or a fancy coffee house) and ask for a cappuccino, what you get is TOTALLY different from those sugary mixes that they sell as cappuccinos at typical places. I like 'em both, but they aren't the same drink!
To: ksen
Well, the stuff they sell at QT isn't cappuccino...it's more like melted ice cream! So sweet you feel like you need an insulin shot afterward.
I don't drink them when I want a cup of coffee...I drink them when I want some sort of desert. The fact that it's caffeinated is a plus!

I remember when I was in Paris...I ordered a cup of espresso...and tried to get a cup of milk to dilute it with...
The woman behind the counter wouldn't give it to me, kept acting like she didn't understand, but I always suspected she did.
Stinkin' cheese-eating surrender monkey...

To: 2Jedismom
We have Quick-Mart's here that have really good "cappucino" drinks. Whenever we need a sugar fix, those are the drinks to get.
